Hi Everyone, I am trying to find a DENNIS ABBOTT. He had a son called Dennis with my Grandmother EDITH DOWNER (now Murphy). I know there is a chance he is no longer alive but my Dad thinks he has 3 younger Sisters. My Grandmother is from HOXTON, LONDON N1 and my Dad was born in 1952. If this rings any bells please get in touch, Thank You x

You imply that your grandmother is alive.......what does she say about the man who fathered her child?

Please bear in mind that this site is not secure....................and privacy issues are at stake

You father's birth was registered as Downer, so the father wasn't named on the cert

Maybe I didn't word it right Penny. I haven't come on here to be judged or judge anyone else, I'm just trying to help my Dad as he was never given the right to get to know his Father even though he met him few times.

Hi Reg, My Grandmother has Alzheimers and it was all so long ago. Dad only has a small version of his birth certificate, I am going to try to obtain a full one for him x

Do you believe Dennis was from Hoxton?
There are these 2 births, but neither have 3 younger sisters:
Births Jun 1931
Abbott Dennis J Hackney
Births Jun 1933
ABBOTT Dennis J Hackney
Any guess as to probable birth year?

Added:
Do you mean Dennis has 3 younger sisters, or your Dad has 3 younger half-sisters?

Hi, Patchem, My Nan thinks he was from outside Hoxton. Possibly Tower Hamlets or the Hackney area. Dad thinks Dennis had 2 or 3 younger daughters as he often caught some girls dropping off unsigned Christmas presents but wasn't told who they were from. I have sent messages to all possible Dennis Abbotts or trees related to him in the Hackney area or not far from there. Just waiting for replies. Dad thinks the Sisters lived in Fellows Court off Hackney Road but I don't know how to check houses etc.

Are you saying that Dennis (senior) lived with Edith and Dennis (junior) for several years, and during this time he had daughters with another woman?
Sorry, just trying to sort out facts.
When was Dennis (snr) last in contact with them?
The 2 births that I posted both appear to be in people's trees on here.

No, Nanny and Dennis dated and she fell pregnant, they split up but my Dad saw his Father a few times upto the age of 4. Dad believes Dennis went on to have daughters and my Nan got married.
Dad would have last seen him in 1956/7

If Dad was so young, maybe the Sister's were elder. Everything was so hush hush back then, STRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think they both share the same middle name?

You can access old electoral rolls at the nearest library. You will need an address though.

Hi Rose, It's possible although my Dad could have his uncles middle name too.
