Many thanks to everyone who read the message and tried to help. Joan has made contact with another relative who knew I was trying to find her and passed on the details. Its so good to know that there are people like the Genes group who are willing to help a stranger.

Hover your mouse over the avatar of the person you want to message and you will see a "send message" box or just click on the persons name - that does the same thing.

There are many births in Durham for a Joan Dixon in the correct period,
but only one in South Shields, same with marriages that could be
correct time period for her, but only one again in South Shields,
have PM details, they may help to jog a memory.
