Not convinced you are right with the half sister. The only marriage between Batchelor/Shelvey is not Kenneth D, but a Roy V, in 1951 (unless this is outside England/Wales?) and it looks like this couple went on to have another child in same area in 1960. I did think it was rather a quick divorce - back in the early 1950's it took quite some time so doubt this divorce & re-marriage.

Also, there is no birth reg for your father in the right year - was he born outside England/Wales? Or could he be the Kenneth D born in Bromley in 1931 - though doubtful given the death reg details? However after finding your parents marriage in 1955 he was recorded as David K, not Kenneth D and there is a birth in the right year to match this - although in the wrong quarter.

Sorry, but I think you need to order your parent's marriage certificate to ascertain their maritial status at the time - or talk more to your mother. I realise his death was recorded as Kenneth D - but this is only as good as the information believed by the informant.

We're here to help, but some of the information you've found is rather doubtful, so go back and check your sources and don't rely on anything you can't prove - otherwise you may inavertantly cause some upset.

Although, after all this tirade, hope you and your mother enjoy having an uncle/brother around <3

Hi Denise, Glad to hear you have now managed to make contact with Norman - hopefully although his mother refuesed to discuss family he may be able to fill in some more of the gaps over time, once he's had chance to get over the surprise of having a sister/neice!

You may need to order the marriage certificate for Sarah/Frederick to get her age and fathers name/occupation. You can do this on the GRO website (£9.25) don't order from anywhere else as they charge extra!

Hope you don't mind but some of the details from your PM will help others in the search for your ancestry, so I'm posting up what you now know:

Marriage & death for Frederick Lockwood confirmed as correct by Norman.

Florence born after Frederick's death, father currently unknown.

Sarah A Hevey was from Ireland, came to England age 17 from Mullingar (Co Westmeath), but year of birth unknown. After birth of Florence returned to Ireland (area unknown), and was a nurse. Florence left in nunnery and eventually returned to England at outbreak of war and went to a foster home.

Looking for Sarah's birth and family in Ireland (quick look on 1901/11 census but nothing obvious even though she should appear on 1911 at least).

Denise would be grateful for any help in finding her ancestors and half sibling.

OMG thank you all sooo much I am sooo grateful, as you are all aware I have only just started and a very big novice. All the information is so fantastic I have a big smile on my face. I would really love to trace any family in ireland as well as england and also ancestors as my mum was born out of wedlock and taken back to Ireland and left on a nunnery doorstep, she was fostered as a child but not a happy one so left home when she was sixteen bless her.on I am also looking for a Jacqueline S Batchelor born 1952 parents Florence T Batchelor maiden name Shelvey and Kenneth David Batchelor as I think this is my half sister my dad was born 29.3.29 and died 19th May 1998 he was married to Jacquelines mum in 1950 and then he married my mum in 1955 but they got divorced arounf 1968, not great for me, thats why I need to find out about my family. Thank you all again, I am so grateful

That fits Shirley, she was born in Q2/1929 Salford, matches the dob for the death in 2004 in Hampshire which I had already PMd to Denise. Army connection also fits as they are on the ERs at some barracks in London in the 1950s, but I didn't write down the name.

edit: Looks like 2 children born in England to that marriage - so you have some cousins to find as well. If you can't access the details post up & someone will be able to let you have them.

Message received from Denise to say thanks for her uncle's details. She also found the same details last night and is currently trying to contact him.

Could someone with a FMP sub check the 1953 marriage for Norman to establish Margarets maiden name?

I've assumed she is looking for living relatives as it's on this board, but not now sure if she is looking for ancestors or living :-S

Her uncle married in Hong Kong by the looks of it - FMP has the marriage.

The wording of the thread is a little misleading as its her mums relatives she is looking for I think .

Hope i have got this right :-D

Denise has the initials wrong way round for her uncle. The person in question is living I-O-W and in the phone book. Have sent PM with address & phone number

added: it's the right person, he was a director of the local bowls club until he resigned in 2007, and the director info gave birth year 1932. According to the phone book he has moved since 2007 to the new address I've sent.

Have you looked to see if anyone has this family in their trees on this site?

Did your mum know her parents or was she adopted? as this looks like the death of the Frederick Lockwood I have given you, which was before your mother was born but not unusual for birth to be registered in the mothers married name
