"Have also tried Scotlands People and the births for that day do not check out."

Not sure what is meant by the above statement. The entries are recorded in the date order of registration not the date of birth. I think that parents have a six week period in which to register a birth. So you cannot search for a birth using the actual date of birth only the year.

I assume that what was meant was that there was no twin registered at the same time as the posters birth.

Scotland has always timed birth and deaths since 1855 on certificates ....so its not a great help.,,,,,,gros numbers, place and surname are the only way on more modern Scotland births there is no mothers maiden name shown in modern indexes,,,,plus unless they are over 100 years old they cant be viewed online,,,,,,but can be ordered.

Not sure when it started but thought there was a time of birth on a cert, for twins in Scotland, and with my twins sisters, there reference numbers were numerical one after the other in the GRO records

Could the twin have been stillborn? Stillbirths were entered on a different register, not accessible by the general public I believe, but can be obtained by NoK
Some info can be found here (amongst other sites via google)

Reggie, I have learned to realise one never assumes anything as it can be the mother of all mstakes. I never knew my father and he is not named on my birth certificate but my mother is and she is the sister we buried some years ago. I was adopted by my grandparents and no one told me anything. Illegitimate in a catholic family in 1946 would never be talked about. Adoption papers reveal little. Regards Anne

Who put the idea into your head?

Was it someone known to be 100% trustworthy?

Did you know your parents?

Sorry to ask, but one would assume that if you did, they would have told you whether or not you were a twin

Your twin would have the same surname as yourself so if you have your original birth registration look up your entry on Scotlandspeople. Your twin would have either the entry number before or after yours.

In 1946 the registration district number for Falkirk was 479. The entry number on the birth certificate is the number in the left hand (first) column of the certificate. for example if that number on yours is 946 you would expect your twin to have the number 945 or 947 as both births would be registered at the same time.

You don't say what you have already tried, but after a quick google search I found this site - looks like a good place to ask for advice:

I don't know how Scotlands People site works, but for English/Welsh births after 1911 you can search for births using just surname and mother's maiden name, plus district if you know it. I would think Scotland has a similar system? If you pin down the entry for your own birth that might be a start.

It was a thought that I may have a twin but have no proof and cannot find the records for Dunrowan anywhere. Anne.

Anne, if you are happy to do so, can you say why you are looking? I appreciate this may well be a sensitive issue.
I only suggest this in case there are other avenues you might be able to explore and haven't considered - folks on here can be very imaginative!

May one ask why...........

If, as one assumes, you know the name, and are being discreet...........try looking in search all trees
