Hi Gwyn - as HCC had his records they knew his new name. Therefore by looking up the adopted surname they found records. They gave me some hints to my questions but couldn't give me actual information. For example I asked if his name was very different, answer was 'don't assume that first names have always been changed'. I then asked if he was married, the response was yes. I chatted and mentioned the birth mother's death in Nottingham, sometime later in the conversation the gentleman from HCC asked why I mentioned Nottingham. I put 2 & 2 together and came up with the idea that he could be living in or around Nottingham. I guess the information is reasonably easy to find if one knows where to look as a professional in the adoption field.

Thanks for your reply,

Diane

I have no idea how records are kept, but it seems strange that H.C.C. are aware that he married.
I wouldn't have thought they would know about that....?

Couldn't resist a look! Assuming he married between the ages of 18-38, which is what I usually start off with, there are only 5.
I suggest you look for corresponding births for them - any you can't account for might be worth pursuing.
Good luck anyway, let us know how you get on.

Hi Gwyn - yes this is the birth mother of Mike & Gordon Maish. She was living with relatives in Nottingham when she died.

Thank you for your reply,

Diane

As you said you think she died while staying with relatives, I just wondered if you had attempted to trace them for more information?

Do you know which is his Mother (if either)?

Hi Jan - I have left my footprint on several sites, however, not the National Adoption Register - will do!!

He was adopted after his mother died, my husband Mike was farmed out to family friends and relatives for short periods of time - longest was 2 years in Cambridge with a maiden aunt which he loved.

I know that GFL is married, I asked the question of HCC - I will try your suggestion.

Thank you

Diane

Hi Diane.

Have you registered your details on the National Adoption Register? Not sure if the council adoption service would be aware if he had registered there or not - but I would do so anyway in case he ever goes looking.

I assume he was adopted as his mother had died? Is there any reason you believe his first names were unchanged, as he would still have been very young?

If we go with what you believe for now, might it be an idea to look for marriages for a Gordon F.L. 'something'? There won't be too many in the right time scale I imagine.

I have been searching for a while for my late husband's brother, who he didn't know he had. Birth mother was Florence May Maish nee Marsden b 1910 dec'd 1946. Gordon was adopted but not at birth. The copy birth cert states dob 4/7/45 at 95 Blundell Road, Edgware, Hendon. However, on the application for birth cert it states DOB 1/1/45. I have liaised with Hampshire County Council Adoption Services who found Gordon's record but couldn't give me any information as it seemed Gordon had not registered to look for birth relatives. Is Gordon living in Nottingham? I think this is where his birth mother passed in 1946 staying with her relatives. I don't think the first names have been changed. I'm not sure how to proceed with my search, any help would be brilliant.
