Find Living Relatives

Good evening to all in England, I am trying to get some information on James born 12th April 1927 to Rosalia Bagnall at 111 Gospatrick Road, Wood Green, Edmonton (from birth certificate) His mother died the following year and he lived for a while with his father Albert Edward Bagnall at 218 Risley Avenue, Tottenham. However his father was quite ill resulting in James being adopted out possibly at about age 2. Any information re his whereabouts would be appreciated and I am particularly interested in any record of marriage for him. i did find a death registration for someone with the same name in Wales 1963 but not sure if this is for him.

There are no other James W Bagnell births around 1927 so that death you found could be correct.

You can see the children on FreeBMD. Search for Bagnall with mother's maiden name Cox.

If James was adopted, his name would have been changed. and he would not be married with the surname of Bagnall would he? Or are you thinking he might have been fostered and not adopted? Before you write to anyone you have to be 100% sure it is the right person and it doesn't look to me as if you have proved these Bagnalls in Bath / Wales are your family, or perhaps I have missed something?
If you believe the Father's address in Tottenham is the last known residence for James, you could apply to the Adoption Dept of the London Borough of Haringey, which covers that area, to see if James' Adoption file is with them. If you are a close family member they will help you a little with your search.
It does depend on each individual Local Authority as to how much information they will give you.
As you do not live in the UK I suggest you seek out your nearest
International Social Services Office and discuss first with them . If there is a File for James then Haringey will send the information from it to your International Social Services, they wont give it to you direct. It does sound a bit complicated,...... it isn't but it is a bit long winded!

Have you tried searching for Albert, James' father? It would be easier to see if he re-married and had another family.than to search for James when you are not sure of his surname

I see you have all this on your tree on Ancestry...you have attached an ER for 1945 and 1953 living in Paddington for James W Bagnall, think you will find they belong to someone born 1888

Thank you Peter and Jax for all the information which is very helpful and will be followed up on. With regards to the adoption he may well have been fostered out just like his brother Henry Cornelius Bagnall was. Henry retained his name and I was able to track his history and find some cousins of ours that had been lost to the family, however you are correct and if adopted and name changed it may be difficult to find him.
I do appreciate the info re our tree on Ancestry jax and will remove that as I like all the information to be as accurate as possible. many thanks to all the people on this site who have been absolutely wonderful and helpful
