Searching for living relatives or any information about Sargeant Charles Critchley of the Gloucester Costabulary about 1880. He lived in Bearland next to the prison. I believe he had great grandsons Clive and Colin. There was an article about him in the Gloucester Citizen March 9, 1990.

Thanks to all for your time. While I have most of the information available on-line I do appreciate your efforts. I.m really looking to connect with living relatives

You asked for 'any' information, which led us to believe that you didn't know anything other than that which you mentioned.

Have you used 'search all trees' as advised?

You refer to his g/grandsons......have you looked for them on 192?

Or in the phone book?

patchem

patchem Report 24 Mar 2013 23:41

Have you used Search/Search All Trees to see who else on genes has any of the Critchleys in their trees - e.g. Dean, Joan (Critchley) and Russell have Percival Critchley, 1887, in their trees.

Patchem,
I have contacted Dean and Joan, our connection is farther back than Charles, I am currently in contact with Russell with some interesting conversations, but no information on Colin or Clive. Thanks again for your time.

Reggie,
I see where I may have misled you, I apologize. On checking through the information you posted a couple of interesting items came up. In the 11:36 post you listed 2 births for Charles Critchley to Critchley/ Wathen, 1949 and 1945, and a death in 1947. I was not aware of the earlier Charles. I found the birth and death in Free BMD but, of course, they don't list the mothers maiden name. Where did you find this? Also in your 11:40 post you list an Alfred (1854) among the children. Another surprise! He does not show up in the 1861 census so possibly another early death? Especially interested because my Dad's name was Alfred. Again I thank you for your time and effort and would appreciate any light you can shed on these subjects.
As far as checking the phone book. I'm in Canada so it's a little difficult. I have looked at the on-line phone book and there are 80 Critchley listings in Gloucester alone and I have no idea if they are even in Gloucester.
What is 192?
Derek

The local phone books don't give any more detail than the BT online ones.

http://www.192.com - it has searchable electoral rolls, you can search for free but have to buy credits to look at actual addresses. However, since 2002 we have been able to "opt out" of the public electoral rolls - so not everyone is listed.

If you find someone you are looking for you can get the first part of their post code and then check if they are on the online phone records to save paying to view on 192.

Reggie has got the information from Gloucestershire bmd site, where mothers maiden names have been transcribed. It's free & if you take a look you'll find the death of Alfred in 1855 age 14 months.

Reggie posted this link earlier in the thread.
