Hi Joanne,

The name alone isnt enough to go on as its not a unique one and there are many marriages in that name in England and Wales apart from world wide,,,,

a little more detail such as area and year would aid your search...plus which country.?

Welcome to the boards, Joanne.

I think Joanne has Josephine Pickering, 1941, in her tree on here.

There is a birth for a Josephine in 1941, Maidstone.
There is a birth with possible same parents for Jean M Pickering, 1937, York.

Is this the correct family, and do you know where they went after York then Maidstone?
Thanks

Added:
Parents:
Marriages Dec 1936
Pickering Leslie Towse York 9d 82
Towse Ivy Pickering York 9d 82

I think Joanne has about 3 different tree version/membership numbers on here.

I think Joanne was born in Kent, so family may have stayed there.

Do you know if this is your grandfather's death?

Leslie Pickering
Birth Date: 16 Dec 1916
Date of Registration: Nov 1992
Age at Death: 75
Registration district: Gateshead
Inferred County: Durham
Volume: 2
Page: 38

And could this possibly be his birth?
Births Mar 1917
Pickering Leslie Billingham Gateshead 10a 1547

I can see no Marriage for Jean M Pickering in the North East of England.

Joanne Report 3 Apr 2013 21:02

i have Leslies birth certificate he was born 9.12.1916 and died in november 1992. his mother was margaret billingham and his father was william pickering. i wonder if she stayed in kent?

patchem

patchem Report 3 Apr 2013 22:46

If she stayed in Co Durham and never married, there is a Jean M Pickeing showing on 192.com.
http://www.192.com/atoz/people/pickering/jean/sr7/1677086586/
But that is probably from a marriage of a Jean M to Mr Pickering in Durham eastern in 1970.

There are no marriages in Kent.
Some in Essex and London , but nothing likely.

If you got Leslie's death certificate there is a very remote chance that the informant could be related and give you useful information.

patchem Report 19 May 2013 22:32

I did not think you needed the date of death to order the certificate, just use his name, place, year and quarter?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 20 May 2013 12:13

You dont need the full date . you tick the box on the GRO order that asks if the GRO is known .

All you need to order the cert is to specify its a death cert. his name as its listed on the GRO ref and use the ref in the appropriate boxes

It's when you don't tick the box that asks if the GRO ref is known that you will required to put in more info than you have like the actual death date
