The only McLeod born around then had Fraser for the mother's maiden name.

Putney came under Wandsworth reg district so the Donald reg would seem to be right one,
Have you bought the cert for the info it can give?

Putney doesn't come under Camberwell so am puzzled that the birth was reg Camberwell reg district.

Have you bought the cert?

Hi there

Thanks for the replies.

My fathers name on birth cert is Douglas McLeod born 25/10/47 at St Giles Hospital, Camberwell. His birth mothers name was Mary McLeod and she was a domestic servant, he was then taken to mother and baby home Putney. We do not know where he went from there or how old he was when he was adopted as adopted mother didn’t want him to talk about and when he asked for adoption paper she told him he had destroyed them. I have just received the forms to fill out to try and get copies of his adoption papers.

Only he can apply for his adoption papers.
You haven't said if he is still alive but if so he will have to apply for them, If sadly he has passed away then his adoption file is sealed and not available to anyone else

There are not many births in London and Middlesex, 1910-1932, so just depends if she was from further afield:
Births Mar 1917
McLeod Mary A M Smith Pancras 1b 20
Births Mar 1928
McLeod Mary G Timothy Woolwich 1d 1653

He is still alive, the papers arrived yesterday and he will fill them out. This is for his birth records as I was told this will say who the adoption agency was or will have the courts name that delt with the adoption.

Patchem, thank you for this!

Sorry, internet went down last night.

There looks to be a marriage for Mary A M McLeod in 1938, so she is ruled out.

There is possibly a marriage for Mary G McLeod in 1949, Barnet, (25 miles away) so she still remains in the frame.

But she could have been born anywhere.

Her name on the birth certificate is just Mary McLeod, no middle name.

I heard back from the LMA today and was told that all files on the mother and baby home Spencer Walk Putney had not survived so I hope I can maybe gather some more info from the adoption papers.
