Looking for Frank Mcguire born september 1930 in Ireland, he came over here for work in the 1950's, stayed in Manchester and worked for a building firm in manchester for a while, he was a general labourer.

He is my birth father, he was living with Rhoda Smith in Arkwright st Bolton for a while, they had two babies , I was born in 1961 birth name Jean and my brother was born in 1962 , birth name John.
Rhoda was ill at the time and being alone with Frank had no outside support, she needed hospital treatment and he couldnt look after the babies, his family where probably in Ireland.
Rhoda went into hospital and Frank left to go back to the Manchester area which is the last information we have on him.
I was adopted as was my brother , now we are trying to trace him, or news of him at least. I do know he was a tall man.

So anyone out there with information help please!

Hi Jeanne.

I can't help you personally, but have a couple of things you might consider. Firstly, though a long shot and rather intimidating should you decide to contact these people, you could try looking at all the Frank McGuire's on 192.com. There are 54 - a lot, but if you limit by area might be worth thinking about. I recommend you google 'frank mcguire 192.com' as you will immediately see where they all are (not addresses though, as it's a pay-per-view site). Or just click here!

Alternatively check all F. McGuires on BT online, or ask at your nearest main library for Manchester phone books. Obviously he could be anywhere but you need to start with something.

Have you got an address for him? If so you might try sending a letter to it, or even to neighbours. It's surprising how often people stay at the same house for many years, and certainly no harm in trying. Somebody, somewhere might remember something about him.

Are you in touch with Rhoda or her family? Similarly they might have more info.

There is a thread on Genealogy Chat board regarding Irish research, it's very long but there might be something there you can use:

bear in mind his age! Letters would be better

Its also possible that his name is Francis, not Frank

Thanks Jan,

A number of years ago I did check the phone numbers and rang quite a few, I was looking for Rhoda back then as she went as Mcguire even though they were not married.
will try it again looking for Frank, I do have someone Irish in the locality who is asking around as he has lived hear a long time and is in contact with the Irish community, hopefully someone will remember working or drinking with Frank, a tall Irishman with character as I believe.

Penny, thanks- I realize that Francis may be his formal name, he gave the social worker Frank Mcguire as his name, hopefully I can find out what it officailly is :-)

Have you given up on Rhoda altogether? Although Smith is obviously tricky, there aren't all that many Rhoda's. Assuming your mother was between 15 and 35 years old in 1961, that is born 1925-45, there are only 6 births in the whole of Lancashire, and just one in Bolton.

BrummieJan,

Yes that would be Rhoda's birth record, Rhoda died last January, I never met her, I am in touch with her brother though. thanks anyway.

Liz 47,

Yes I have tried the search and emailed Anne about a week ago, but no reply so far, just hope she sees the email soon as he is a strong possibiltiy.
Thanks :-)

Its nice to think that people are trying to help, thanks folks :-)
