So you don't think that the Redfern/Shadlock marriage has any relevance.......despite its being the only one..............

If you've used freebmd, you should be aware of all of the issue of the marriage...............

When circumstances permit, invest £9.25 in the Redfern/Shadlock marriage cert

................then come back with the full details from the cert...................

Hi Tia

Are you certain that birth is the right one for "your" Edwin ?

If so it should give the names of both parents

IF his Mum had been married before it should say so ---- something like

first name /s Redfern
formally ?? = her 1st married name
Nee Shadlock

Hope this helps :-)

Hi Tia

I think you do need Edwin's Birth Cert, As I said in an earlier posting we can't be sure that William and Elsie were his parents.

Although we know he was born to a ? Redfern and his mothers maiden name was Shadlock --and William and Elsie's marriage seems to be the only one that fits, BUT of the Elsie Shadlock's born

Births Jun 1888 (>99%)
SHADLOCK Elsie Caistor 7a 689

Seems to have married

Marriages Jun 1908 (>99%)
Shadlock Elsie Caistor 7a 1679 (Frank Chambers)
====================================================
I think this is the birth and death index for this Elsie

Births Sep 1896 (>99%)
Shadlock Elsie Caistor 7a 662

Deaths Mar 1898 (>99%)
Shadlock Elsie 1 Caistor 7a 461
=======================================================
And this one is too young to have married in 1925

Births Dec 1917 (>99%)
Shadlock Elsie Millett Gainsbro' 7a 1021
========================================================

My thinking is that a Miss Shadlock married--- and then married a Mr Redfern in her married name (any children of this couple would still have mothers maiden name as SHADLOCK)

So if you are sure the Edwin D Redfern is the right Edwin for your research, then I would say it would be well worth £9.25 for cert to see his parents names.

Redfern Douglas M. Shadlock Glanford B. 7a 1052 Redfern Edwin D Shadlock Glanford B. 7a 976 Redfern Brian J. Shadlock Glanford B. 7a 1038
This is the information i have found on freeMBD on Edwin redfern's birth and his brothers birth records and the only redfern and shadlock i can find on the marriages is the same as you have found.
Redfern William Shadlock Thorne 9c 1907
Shadlock Elsie Redfern Thorne 9c 1907
so does that mean i am on the right track or do i still need the birth cert for edwin??

Hi

Shirley if Tia knows for certain that Edwin was the father -then its his birth cert she needs :-S

--this should tell Tia the name of both his parents

This could save her buying the marriage cert---or at least help to look for the right one, when she finds Edwin's parents names as we are not sure they were named William and Elsie

Buy that cert using the ref

www.gov .uk is where to buy it costs £9.25!

You have to register .free , the specify what cert is needed . Don't forget to tick the box that asks if the GRO ref is known. Then fill in the ref where asked .

Use the spellings as listed , for a marriage certbyou only need to quote one of the names
