Walter Charles Underwood served in the RAFVR with 148 Special Duties Squadron based in Brindisi Italy He held th rank of Sgt.He flew on Halifax JP 162FS-S on a supply drop to the Polish Home Army August 4/5th 1944.
The other crew were
Flt LT James McCall RAFVR KIA
Sgt Clifford Aspinall RAFVR KIA
Sgt John Rae RAFVR KIA (he was my father)
Sgt Allen Jolly RAFVR Evaded capture
Sgt Robert Peterson RCAF Evaded capture
F/O PJ Anderson RCAF Evaded capture
The plane was shot down and crashed in the village of Wajnarowa Poland The crew who baled out were rescued by the partisans and were hidden in safe houses till they were able to return to the UK March 1945
I am the daughter of Sgt Rae and I would be please if anyone who knew these men would contact me I have been researching the history of these brave men and have gained a lot of knowledge of their service
