Iam looking for my birth father, my mothers name at the time was jackie horrigan and she knew my father as lou, at the time of my birth he was around 23 yrs old and they were both living in slough. At the time he was working on the slough trading estate as a metal plater and was living in wellesley avenue.i think they may have meet at the star and garter windsor and i know he went to the carlton ballroom in slough 1963/64, any help would be greatly appreciated...

Do you live locally still? My advice would be to go to where the archives are kept (usually the nearest main library) and check the electoral register for that street around 1964. If he was eligible to vote he might be registered there. That way you will have his full name.
Obviously don't put on here, but does your mother know anything else whatsoever - his birthplace or names of friends/family?

Reggie is correct - this site is not secure, but you try contacting the metal firm he worked for and with a name like Lou he may be remembered or they might like to help if there are still the records kept. I think there is a firm called Metal Fasteners or should I say used to be.

There appears to be Apex or Montrose Fasteners now and they may be able to point you in a direction or even still you may get lucky and he still works for them. What do you know or is it nothing at all. Jan would be right if the latter is the case and the street address. Do you have your birth certificate? What does that say? What about mum's friends at the time - did she share anything with them?

Shame that if he knows you exist he has not tried to find you!

Good luck

Sappho ..................

if he was about 23, 50 years ago ................. I doubt he would still be working, or that anyone who knew him then would still be working there now.

Yes, I understand your comments, but Slough is a close knit community and the old workers keep in regular contact.

I thought that myself but clutching straws here.

Thank you. Any suggestions yourself?

Just a snippet from Wikipedia about the Slough Trading Estate

Slough Trading Estate consists of 486 acres (1.97 km2) of commercial property in Slough and provides 7,500,000 sq ft (700,000 m2) of accommodation to 500 businesses and has a working population of about 20,000 people. Slough Trading Estate is the largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe.[2] There are over 600 buildings. The Estate is home to 400 tenants

So it is a rather large place to look for anyone I would think

Hi Jax,

Yes, again I know about the Estate, but you would be surprised how many people who worked there in the 60's knew each other from the variety of firms.

For instance there was Aspros, Johnson and Johnson, Abestos companies and the 60's was a time for meeting up with friends from school then in the workforce on the Trading Estate as we called it.

There are still lots of reunions that go on and you would be surprised how many of those workers communicate with each other from their adoptive countries around the world.

I could go on, but I was making a suggestion and I do take those points made about the size of the Estate and the time lapse, but surely that was the point from Paula's thread, can we help?

I thought I was trying to do this.

Jax the information about the Slough Trading Estate is interesting for those who do not know it.

If you think he was born in Slough, look at FreeBMD for Lewis and Louis in Eton district.

Thank you all for your replies and i will go and search the electoral roll as im only a short distance away from slough, i have looked on free bdm but im not sure he was born in the area at the time a lot of people moved out of london into slough, it is a shame he never found me i will not go into it for personal reasons but he would have never found me due to name changes ect and not long after my birth we went to australia for a few years, even if he had gone to my nans she would have told him nothing, i do know the name of the company he worked for but didnt think they would be able to give out info on who worked for them :-D
