Looking for my half-brother who was born February ?1944 in Surrey and put up for adoption. May have been given the birth name Roger. Father was an American GI of Italian descent. Any information would be very welcome. Thank you. Anna PS Still unanswered! (Marked by mistake)

Have you looked for his birth on FreeBMD.

It would help your search if you have his name

Probable Birth can be found on this website - free to use. Year 1945

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

EDIT - this was using mmn as Webber before details of prior marriage were found. The question asked may not have been clear and she gave her married name by mistake instead of maiden name?

was she married as there is passenger records for 1953 coming up for her with a hubby of the same age as her who was a Rubber planter and they intended to live in Malaya

Many thanks, Shirley and Stuart, for the information you have found for me. However I do have all that as they were my parents - now long since gone, which is why I have been trying to trace my half-brother. My mother had a liaison during the war when the marriage was in trouble and my father was away and she subsequently had a boy. I know it was February but am not sure whether it was 1943, 4 or 5. Added to which, the American GI was of Italian origin, so the child may have been given his surname. I'm beginning to despair, though of ever finding this particular needle in the haystack. Sorry I've been late in replying but I have been out shopping.

I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how I can add my name to my posts. I'm not sure where I missed something out when entering my first one! Many thanks, Anna.

Welcome Sembrong!

You have ticked the thread as answered - possibly by mistake and if so it may mean that no one will look at it again now. There is no facility for unmarking it, but you can go into your original heading and add something along the lines of "still unanswered"

Unless the dad agreed to be named on the birth reg and went with her when she registered in then his name wont be on the cert .PLUS the birth record would show in both surnames if his dad was on the cert so you would still find it under mums surname

Have you looked at the Roger Webber mmn Webber and discounted that one.

Its Surrey and the right quarter for a feb birth

I have but Webber wasn't my mother's maiden name. Could she have taken her ring off and said she wasn't married?

Have altered my original message as suggested, Stuart. Don't know what I was doing but yes, it was a mistake. Thanks for your guidance.
