Thanks patchem,
My husband is on Facebook and he found who seems to be the only Garth Dalmain in the world!!! I think it said he lives in California, but his account has got security locks on it so I can't see a picture. The odd thing is that when I spoke to Madeline she said that my mother never menchioned a Garth Dalmain and had never heard that name before. Instead she said a name (which I had forgotten by the end of the phone call) and that he a a scooter. All seems very strange, Susan obviously didn't want to talk about this 'Garth'.
Spoke to Madeline again after sending her a letter with some phtos of myself and family, and she said that she will find some photos to send me.
I guess I will just have to wait a bit longer

The reason you cannot see a picture, is because he hasn't added one...he only has one friend so very unlikely to be using Facebook

Hi everybody,
That all seems such a long time ago now! My family and I went down to Cornwall in the Summer to meet my birth mothers step mother Madeline and Madeline's son Marc. They are both lovely and very welcoming, it was the first time I'd ever seen a picture of my birth mother and they told me lots of stories and family history, and gave me my mothers nursing watch.
However there is one person I'd love to trace, Madeline told me that my mother had a partner called Carol Beales and they had a house together (38 Hertford road, Brighton) in 1978. All I know is that she was also a nurse and was probably a similar age (30).
I wonder if someone could advise me, I've looked on 192 and found one lady who is married with children and seems a bit young. I've also contacted people on this web site who have people of the same name on their tree. I've looked in the local phone book.
I'm a bit stuck.
Also, do you think I should start a new 'thread', or carry on writing this old one. I'm still not sure how it all works!
Thank you
Alison : )

Keep to one thread. You can always edit the title to make it more relevant.

So pleased that your meeting with Madeline went well and that you saw some pictures of your mother.

Do you believe that Carol Beales was born about 1948?

If she was born locally then there is this - you can find full details in free bmd:

Births Sep 1948
Beales Carol M Worthing

Hi there,
Yes, I think that's her. Thanks for looking. I'm in the process of going through people with that name that are on the electoral role!
Will keep you updated.
