I am looking for anyone related to Leonard John Sims who will be in his 80`s now if still alive and who originates from the Birmingham area of England.
During the war he was a chief petty officer in the navy.
After the war he settled in Bury, Lancashire for a short time and worked as a sugar boiler at the local sweet factory before moving back to Kingsheath Birmingham approximately 1949 or 1950.
He came from a large family being one of 14 children.
At some point in his working life he worked at the Cadbury factory, Birmingham.
I would very much like to hear from anyone who has a link to Leonard/ Len as they could be my relatives.

When you find his birth............look for registrations for siblings.

10 can easily be identified

Some of the younger ones may be alive

Try using GR's 'search all trees'

Thank you that's so helpful.I looked at the original birth certificate with his mothers maiden name of Day but it seemed to be shortened/cut off and I couldn`t find him or his mothers maiden name on there.
I`m actually looking for half siblings...I know there is certainly one but don't know if they are male or female. They would have been born after 1952.How would I go about finding them.
My father would have been named on their birth certificates but without a first name I`m a bit stuck.
If Leonard died during 1997 as your search suggests there may be an obituary somewhere I suppose ?

If you think that death could be him, it would be worth purchasing it to see if the informant was a relative

If you look on FreeBMD, there is a marriage in Birmingham in 1953.

Have you looked to see whether anyone else on GR has Leonard in a tree?

Look under 'search'........select 'search all member trees'

To find half-siblings (yours, presumably) look for the marriage Rose has identified, and buy the cert, to ensure that it is the right man....................and that the wife had not been married before

Having established those facts, look for possible children......use freebmd

Thanks to you all for the advice.....I finally got into the birth cert and have ordered the death cert.
I couldn`t find the marriage in 1953 on FreeMBC but will keep trying. I must be doing something wrong.
I have left a message on A`s tree (search all members) during Dec as she seemed to be a match but I have not had a response. I posted again so hoping she will get back to me eventually.
Thank you again
