Stephanie Report 9 Aug 2013 16:02

My mother birth name of Jennifer Ann White was born in Hemsworth Yorkshire in 1962. She was then put up for adoption with her sisters Margaret and Yvonne White. We do not know the circumstances but are looking to find the two sisters and possibly any other family members. My mother was the youngest and Yvonne the oldest with the d.o.b around 1958. i have found the birth records of my mother and Margaret Ann White born in 1960 which both state the mothers maiden name as Snowden.

We have been searching for quite a while but i am still quite new to this and dont know what steps to take next due to the adoption and possible marriages etc :-(. If anyone can help or knows any information regarding these people please could you contact me.

Thanks Stephanie.

Welcome to the boards, Stephanie.

Have you worked out who the parents were, and have you looked to see if they are in anyone's tree on here?

Here's the Adoption Contact Register url

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

Try searching Facebook & other social networking sites- they might have opened an account in their birth names

We know the parents last names but even the daughters birth names aren't linked with anything or any other tree, all i have managed to find is the birth records.

My mother doesn't own anything about the birth parents as she was only 1 year old and she was adopted three years after she began in foster care etc.
The closest idea regarding a first name for the mother is Ann but even thats long winded as its just from the fact two of the girls had Ann as their middle name.

See i'm not too good at this

Did you find out about your Aunt's from your mother's Adoption Records? If she hasn't accessed them, then she should apply to Social Services or the Agency who handled the adoption. It sounds as if she hasn't otherwise you'd know her parent's name

Once a person has been adopted, all public records are in their 'new' names.

If you wanted copies of the original birth certificates, order them from
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
for £9.25 as long as you use the references from the index

The certificate will give the declared names of both parents including the mother's maiden name, occupations and normal residence

She remembered their names since she was little and she was told the area that one of them had gone to but it was years later and baring in mind that was in 1963 a lot will have changed since then too and we don't know for sure if she was just fostered or adopted.

Do i have to register in my own name or my mothers name?

we have a few letters which have been signed about adoption and foster care etc but the birth parents arent on it just my grandparents who fostered/adopted her

Not sure - either or I'd think as you are both birth relatives.

Yvonne was born 3Q 1958.

Will PM details + something else which may be relevant.

Your mum really needs to follow up and gain access to her case file.

If you look on FreeBMD:

There looks to be a brother also. Parents could be Brian and Joyce as there's a marriage in the correct area.

How can i find the birth or death records of my mums biological parents? Joyce snowden and Brian White. I have tried looking but i can't work out who is the right person etc, i have their marriage info but nothing to do with births/ deaths or their parents...
Help? :-(

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Aug 2013 10:48

You were sent the detaills of the marriage reference on 9 Aug.
If you order the certificate, that would give their declared ages and the names of their fathers if known.
Witnesses could also be related.

Order certificates from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
It will cost you £9.25 and includes P&P.

Once you have registered, tick 'yes' the box on the form that says "Is the GRO Index Reference Number known? " and complete the pages with the info from the marriage reg.

It's entirely feasible that both Brian and Joyce are alive................
