It may just be coincidence but in the 1947 electoral roll there is a Fanny Sullivan living next door to an Ethel and George Holland in Harlesden...in the 1948 where Fanny is with the Shepherds there is another Holland couple in the house?

Interesting she shows on the electoral roll because she wouldn't have been able to vote if she were Irish.

I'm not sure Rose, what the restrictions were then, but I think you could/can register if you were from RoI but considered yourself a permanent resident?

Not sure if this is any help- last night I found a Fanny Sullivan and Theresa Sullivan living together in London around 1947-1949- think it was Westminster area.
Sorry to be a bit vague,I did not have the confidence to put it on here last night (it was very late) So I tended to dismiss them until I looked at Patricias request again tonight.
I do hope it is some help to you much more experienced folk.
Best Wishes to All

AutumnLeaves, I did see that one, but possibly discounted it as Frances, seems to be living next door to a member of the extended Shepherd family in 47 and with 'May' and family in 1948. There is no obvious trace of her on the electoral rolls after that.

I believe advice has been given by PM for Patricia to ask for records from hospital which may give some info, which is probably needed before looking any further without going down the wrong route I think.

Hi Patricia,

Again, we have some good suggestions. It would be good to know what was stated on your birth certificate regarding where you were born. I mean the name of the hospital in Hammersmith. A real need to start from the beginning.

So many possibles here, but the hospital records are so important to help to move ahead.

Hello ,
Just been reading through this thread, so sad , I hope you can find what you are looking for.

Just thought I would mention that I was brought up in this area in the early 50's and 60's and wonder if any of these schools might help you to remember a little bit more , maybe you went to one of them ? Also I seem to remember there was a big Irish community there at the time.

The schools I went to were Catholic, they were St. Mary of the Angels Primary in Moorhouse Road , there was also the church round the corner , also Called St. Mary's of the Angels , think that was in Artesian Road .
The secondary school I went to was Cardinal Manning School for girls in St. Charles Square, W.10. most of our neighbours daughters went to both these schools.

As for the convent in Portobello Road I seem to remember it was called st. Josephs .

The hospitals in that area during this time would be St.Charles in St.Charles Square , Du Cane hospital, which I think is now Hammersmith hospital and the materninty hospital was Queen Charlottes in I think shepherds bush road which closed some years ago now.

hopefully these might jog your memory,

regards
jean
