Many thanks to both. Fairthorn - yes, that was my (our!) mum. I've googled and googled but nothing's come up yet...

Have already been talking to Hampshire CC adoption services people and nothing. Will now try C of E agencies - great idea DetEcTive - mum's parents were very religious so likely they will have used one of these.

Has anyone had any experience of research agencies? Just wondering if I might go down that route if I turn nothing up.

Was your mum born October 15th 1946 ?

I ask cos Wendy may be looking for her birth mum so I always look on google under the birth mum's maiden name.

Have a word with Winchester SS - if they didn't handle the adoption, they may be able to suggest agencies around at the time.

If your mother was Catholic, consider Catholic agencies - Similarly C of E ones

Thanks so much for your reply. I've got her birth certificate and have just added myself to the Contact Register.

Our mum died 15 years ago and my dad is very vague about the whole thing - he went to see her once after she was born and is okay with me looking for her but doesn't seem to remember much.

I really appreciate your advice - I'm going to get stuck in now - what else is time at work for?!

Best wishes

Lindsay

Welcom to the boards Lindsay -

Have you added your and/or your parents names to the Adoption Contact Register?
https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

Assuming that your parents are still living, ask if they can remember which agency/SS they used.
Contact them and ask for a letter to Wendy to be added to her file - there was a gentleman on here at the end of last year who discovered letters on his file from his parents. His adopton was in similar circumstances.

Search trees on here under her birth name, as well as facebook and other social networking sites. Sometimes adopted people create accounts in their birth names.

Another site to consider is http://www.missing-you.net/

Good luck

Lindsay

Hello all

I am looking for my sister. She was called Wendy Rachel Shipp and was born on 2nd April 1963 at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. She was adopted at about 6 weeks. We share the same mum and dad but my mum was only 16 and she was put into an unmarried mothers' home. Our parents went on to marry and had my two brothers and me. I would do anything to find you!!!!
