If your aunt thinks he was 19/20 (at the start of the relationship?) in 1964 (and so younger than your mother who would have been 25) then his birth would have been 1944.
Thomas Coyle is going to be a very popular name in Ireland....

Your Mother could choose to go by the surname Coyle when she was living with him, she does not have to be married to change her surname.

Thanks for the reply

I would need to check the birth certificate once again as am not sure if he put down a middle name

. I did check the birth register and stipulates that a david coyle was registered in autum of 1966 and mothers name was put down as coyle or partington? Any reason why this might be ? Perhaps confusion over their relationship. As far as am aware they were never married.

I have spoken to my mothers sister today, who is not well and a little forgetful. She told me my mother was born in 1939....She vaguely remembers Thomas Coyle being a partner of my mothers and believed him to be around 19 or 20 at the time... the age thing i put was a guess.

As for contact-i think the last time he was seen was around when i was six months or so old.

I do not know if they were living together at the time. I was told that his grandfather was ill and he went back to Ireland and after that they separated. All surviving relatives have never spoken of him and there is no information to hand or even a picture.

Still at am at the start of my jigsaw puzzle and will have to looking for the edge piees first...

thx for the help

Welcome to the boards, David.

Both you and your sister have middle names, so it would help to know if Thomas did also.
What name is showing on your birth certificate?
Was he living with your mother at the time of the births, if so, from the address you could consult the ER's for there to find out also.
Was he about the same age as your Mother, so birth around 1942?
When and where was he last in contact?

Thank-you

Added:
You have put his date of birth as '1930' in your tree - this would make him 10 years older than your Mother, is that a complete guess?
