Hi Rose, We have been told that Edward Cox kept the second child a girl that was took on by his sister, we know of one sister Phoebe Cox who lived in Fyfield and was a spinster. Just would like to know if child was a boy or a girl and born before John or after. Only know for definite Edward Cox had a sister Phoebe and lived at a farm in Tubney in 1942.

There is a girl born in 1945 but her other surname looks to be of Polish origin.

Thanks Gwyn and Jax, I have been looking on the site you suggested. The Beckley born in Wantage is my cousin Michael, it was his sister that told us about the second child as it was a secret she felt she had to share, although she was a child herself at the time so has limited knowledge

John was born in Wallingford.... No father as mentioned

The father is believed to be Edward Cox of Tubney and we think Mum may have been sent to relatives in Cholsey or possibly a home for unmarried mothers at Wallingford for the birth

There is no father showing on John Keith's birth certificate.
Do you know anything about him?
Thanks

Have a look on the freebmd site for children born around that time and in that general area ( same area code of numbers ).
Use BECKLEY as surname and mother's maiden name.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Click on the page numbers and see if any child is registered with the same forename, but different surname.
This indicates that the parents were probably not married, but the father acknowledged the child and was probably present at the registration..... I would expect him to be named, if this father's family raised the child.

There is a possible child born that fits these criteria.

Only a certificate would show whether or not this was your mother's child.
Check for that child's details ( both surnames) in Search Trees on this GR site. You might find a match and you could click on the tree owner's name to share information.

Born to Gladys May Beckley of Tubney Berks. I had one half brother John Keith Beckley (born 23/02/42) now deceased. I have now been informed my Mother had another child with the same father around this time, which the father's family kept.
