Thank you for the replies posted here and yes, John Ralph Simmons b.1870 Frindsbury is one ancestor I've researched, and the information given here supports what I have found out about him, and I'd like to answer a question asked here and that is I have never looked for this ancestor on GR before.
I will go through what has been posted here, and check my notes and see if I can learn from the information given.

Before rejecting the 1938 one out of hand, we have to remember that a massive number of young men in Ethel's generation were killed in WW1. A large number of women died as spinsters, or married widowers in their middle age.

I have found that John Ralph died in 1952 in Rochester, and I am looking into the two marriages listed here.
