Thanks Potty,I think I will try in the Manchester evening news. I have looked on their web site but can't seem to find how to place an advert...but I will

Have you considered placing an advert in the Personal Column of one of the Manchester papers? A friend of mine did this in Liverpool and was contacted by and is now in touch with relatives. Somebody who worked with her may have some info.

Thanks, Jan and Sirius for your replies but I have already discounted all the leads you suggest. There are also friends of St Joseph's Patricroft been looking for Carmel for some years without any luck. :-(
I'll keep trying but can't think of any thing else at present to give me a lead.
Thank you for your suggestions
Regards Danny

Just to add - the above Carmel is on 192.com for Manchester 2014. I would definitely check this out, if only to exclude her.
Will PM the name.

Danny have you noticed there is a marriage for a Carmel Corcoran in Manchester in 1979?
The surname of the husband is very unusual.
Added - there are 5 daughters to the marriage.
Well worth checking out ,don't you think?

Hi, I am trying to trace Carmel Corcoran who I believe is my aunt. Last year my Father James Thomas Corcoran ( Tommy ) died. Before he died he told me that he thought he had a sister called Carmel. His mother's name was Elizabeth Corcoran born 14/5/1905 Castlecomer Kilkenny Ireland, she never married. My father was born 29/3/1940 no father registered on his birth certificate. He was born in Manchester but was evacuated to Crawshawbooth, Lancashire around the age of 3 or 4 and never returned to live with his mother, although they still had some contact.
The only thing my dad could tell me about Carmel was that she had red hair and he thought she worked in H. Samuel's jewellery shop in Manchester. I'm guessing this would have been in the 60's/70's as my Dad left Lancashire in 1974 after my Mum died.
I didn't know where to start looking for Carmel so I started with BMD and found a Carmel Corcoran born 8/1/1939 Manchester. I sent for the birth certificate and it came back with mother's name Elizabeth Corcoran, no father registered.....could this be her?? With further research I found out that Carmel entered Our Lady of Lourdes children's home 21/2/1940 until she was 5yrs old and then transferred to St Joseph's Patricroft from 8/8/1944 to 24/9/55. She was 16yrs old when she left and I don't know what happened to her after that except that she MIGHT have worked at H. Samuel's and my Dad also said he had heard that she MIGHT have emigrated. I have tried everything I can think of to trace her but there doesn't seem to be any record of her getting married or emigrating. Can any one out there help me please?
Regards Danny
