Ann Report 4 Aug 2014 20:06

I am looking for relatives of Samuel Wright Evans 1861 - 1951. He was born in Bolton and served in the Green Howards in South Africa, and according to family legend was Mentioned in Despatches for an incident concerning Lord Baydon Powell. His wife was Emily (nee Blease Forster) - and he had two daughters, Minnie and Vera Evans. He lived in Irlam for many years.

As he married my Granny in 1911 it is quite possible he had a previous wife and/or children. Would be most interested to hear any news.

Odd that Emily was Emily Blease Forster but that the children are registered with Blease as her maiden name.

There was also a son:

Thank you all for your help. Must admit I'm not too good at this.

Emily was born in Northwich in1888 - and told me she was "in service" before marriage. She had a sister or sister in law Annie - who had two daughters, Lillian and Edith They all lived in the Middlewich and Northwich area.

Thanks
Annie

This is the 1911 census for Emily's parents, with a grandson surname Forster, have you investigated Emily's family?

Thanks again. I had found this census record but cannot find Emily in 1911.
She was only married in the final quarter and I think the census was in the first quarter. I have the marriage ref number and will send for a copy. I thought I had found her in the 1901 Census, but she was listed as daughter of George and Martha Blease??? Think my poor granny didn't have a good start in life.

The mystery deepens. Excuse my total ignorance but why is the name shown as Case?

Thanks again.

patchem

patchem Report 5 Aug 2014 21:53

It has been mis-transcribed.

The transcribers guessed his name was John B Case, but it is actually John Blease (or is recognisable as such if you know what you are looking for).
