Can you help, I have a George Hedges who emigrated to Australia in the late 1800 or early 1900. He came from Hampshire, England, :-S

What information are you looking for?

When was he born? Do you have him in any census?

There are quite a few people who have George Hedges from Hampshire in their trees on here (You do not appear to be amongst them).
Have you tried to contact any of them for more information?

if George emigrated in the 1800s then he isn't a 'living relative' :-)

are you looking for descendants and that is why you chose the Living Relatives board?

lots more info needed about him, especially his year of birth ... whether he emigrated with anyone else (wife? children?) ... when he was last known in England (in a census or marriage for example) ...

as patchem says there are numerous George Hedges born at various times in the 1800s in Hampshire in trees at this site

Records show a George E Hedges bc1875 (age 37) sailed 'Themistocles' unassisted passage to Melbourne 1912/13.
NSW/BMD shows:-
1931 George E Hedges married Lilian E White -Queanbeyan NSW
1944 (Reg 26886/1944) a George Hedges died NSW (parents James & Mary)
If this seems to fit and parents' names match- ask a NSW/BMD 'transcription agent' for copy of cert.
(cheaper than buying.) (cert should show any off-spring etc.)

1935 Lilian Ellen Hedges died age 40 'late of Helidon Qld'. Death notice in 'Sydney Morning Herald' 15/11/35 -info from 'Ryerson's Index' -they will do a 'look-up' of this notice.

*** I'm now wondering if this search is going in the reverse direction! Are you wanting to find out more of George's family in UK pre 1800's?

problem is records also show for instance

GEO H HEDGES 1888 LONDON 1911 SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

and the question is about someone who supposedly emigrated in the 1800s

could be a classic case of completely inaccurate info, or could be someone who emigrated much earlier in the 19th century and records are not as readily available ...

George E was from the right place

Births Jun 1874
Hedges George Edward Hungerford 2c 243

but a couple of dozen George Hedges were born in Hampshire 1840-1900

who knows, maybe hastingwood will return with facts ...

Hi thanks to all the above. I do not have any further information. Could be the brother of Albert Edward Hedges, born 1890, in Baughurst, Hampshire (my paternal grandfather). :-S

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 21 Mar 2015 17:43

George Hedges 32
Isabella Hedges 31
Charles H Hedges 12
Beatrice I Hedges 10
Edith A Hedges 8
Thomas G Hedges 6

Edith A Hedges 18
Frederick W Hedges 14
Albert E Hedges 11
Alexander C Hedges 4
Edith M Fisher 5

there does not seem to be a son George at all

and in any case a brother of your Albert would not have emigrated in the late 1800s ...

you say 'I have a George Hedges who emigrated to Australia'

in what sense do you 'have' this person?

you know something about him that has prompted your question, why not tell us? :-)

for info, there was this son who was in the household in 1891 but not in 1901

Births Mar 1885
Hedges Thomas George Kingsclere 2c 238

there is this passenger record
