Raymond Cooknell:Born Apr 1948 in Nuneaton England

I am researching the Cooknell family and trying to trace Raymond who was born 5/4/1948 in Nuneaton. His Mother was Eva Sylvia Cooknell formerly Lambourne.
I believe Raymond may have been adopted shortly after birth. Any information would be great so I can fix that piece of the family history.

Welcome to the board Brian.

Assuming he was adopted, there are only a few things you can do as, obviously, his name will have changed.

Have you searched all members trees - top right under Search - to see if he is listed on members trees? You also need to make sure that he is on yours.

Find his birth reg on https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and leave a Post'em. Say something like Birth family would welcome contact. Create a generic, free, email address which would still be accessible to you even if you change internet providers.

Even if you decide to become a non-subscribing member of GR, make sure your account is always linked to an accessible email address. It has been know for relatives to stumble across a thread several years later. They could contact you via the GR messaging system.

Birth relatives can add their names to the Adoption contact register
https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register
If Raymond has done the same, you should be matched.
Read the other info on the link. It might be. possible for birth family to hire a researcher who would act as an intermediary.

There are other 'Looking for ' sites such as https://www.missing-you.net

There's always the chance that Raymond has never known he was adopted.

Currently you can order a PDF version for £8 which would be emailed to you. A certified copy is £9.25 and would be sent by post.
