Starting to make more sense now. Is this his mother's birth (although surname spelt differently):-

County: Northumberland
Year of registration: 1884
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume no: 10B
Page no: 99

Janet's first marriage:-

County: Northumberland
Year of registration: 1902
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912
Volume no: 10B

MarriageFinder: Janet Alice Stewart married one of the following people:

DODD, William John<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
HILLS, Alfred
OVINGTON, Mary

Possibly Janet's first husband's death:-

Name: DODD, William J
Registration district: Newcastle upon Tyne
County: Northumberland
Year of registration: 1926
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Age at death: 42
Volume no: 10B
Page no: 81

It would seem likely that Ralph was born somewhere between 1926 and 1928.

It looks like you have the spelling of the surnames wrong.

David, I have read this thread several times now and think you may have got your files mixed up,

I will just throw these into the mix as there is a chance that the Ralph who died in 1945 was married and its odd that their is one with a Ralph Atkinson marriage to a Dodds in 1941

Marriages Jun 1941

Atkinson Ralph Dodds Newcastle T. 10b 200
Dodds Gladys Atkinson Newcastle T. 10b 200

Marriages Sep 1932 ??
Atkinson Ralph Johnson Newcastle T. 10b 221
Johnson Violet Atkinson Newcastle T. 10b 221

Births Sep 1908??
Atkinson Ralph Newcastle T. 10b 172

Births Mar 1918
Atkinson Ralph Cawood Newcastle T. 10b 173

Their is also a birth for a Ralph Irving in 1922 which is why I think you could have mixed up with your files

Births Dec 1922
Irving Ralph A Felton Newcastle T. 10b 75

Thank you for that Porkie.
As far as I am aware Uncle Ralph did not marry. His wife would be part of our family.

Ralph died young but was little older than my Mother who was born 1/1/1929

He existed,he died serving his country in WW11
He most certainly had a date of death and a service number.
He had a brother named George also served in the RN and survived.
Ralph's parentage may be a mystery. The telegram informing of his death was delivered to my Grand Father Thomas Atkinson.

Whether his Mother was Janet Dodds /Dodd / Stuart / Stewart is not a matter I wish to quibble about. My Grand Mother was dead defore I was born.

Thank you for your interest and contributions to this thread in seach of his DOB.

My apologies for my ommissions and or errors.

apparently I once posted in this thread and then thought better of it (it still appears in my threads)

I did post in the other thread before realising everything that had been found in this one

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/military_chat/thread/1335159

David, your reference to 'quibbling' is rude, you posted a lot of very inaccurate information (that you knew quite well was inaccurate because you have the correct information in your tree e.g. STEWART not Stuart) and people spent time trying to give the help that YOU asked for -based on- that inaccurate information.

have you even looked back at your duplicate thread ?

why not just edit your subject line here to say Ralph Atkinson instead of Ralph Irvine to save the confusion ?

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 18 Jan 2014 19:53

my guess is that this is Ralph's birth

Births Mar 1925
DODD Ralph Dodd Newcastle T. 10b 237

only the certificate would tell whether the mother was Janet.

there is no death in the index for a matching Ralph Dodd (the one who died aged 1 was a different child)

In all likelihood she had a child with a man other than her first husband and registered him as if she was an unmarried Ms Dodd.

As I noted in your other thread this is probably Janet in 1911

John Wm Dodd 24
Janet Dodd 24
Ethel May Dodd 11/12

and so Ethel is probably another half-sibling of your mother

Births Jun 1910
DODD Ethel May Newcastle T. 10b 78

but the person I mentioned who has that name in her tree ... wrong Newcastle unfortunately, same name but in Staffordshire

however I might wonder about this birth

Births Sep 1916
Dodd Janette Dodd Newcastle T. 10b 63
(no apparent marriage or death)

edit - I also wondered about a Dodd-Dodd birth in 1923 but parents married in 1926, mother as DoddS.
