How can I find my fathers records, I know he joined army around 1914 and lived in Old market area of Bristol.. Can anyone help please.

Hi Valerie and welcome to the boards.

The only surviving records from WW1 can be viewed on the Ancestry site, as can medal cards. Only about 30% of the service/pensions records survived though.

Not finding a service or pension record for him using all his names. Can you give his DOB in case he didn't use all his names.

There are quite a few medal cards for Frederick J but no way of knowing which could be his.

Sorry, this is an aside and is unrelated to the search for military records but have just looked at the 1911 census and in the infirmity column it has for father Edwin "crippled", for mother Rose it says "blind". For the two children Frederick and Grace it says "perfect".

And indeed they must have been.

I Have written everything down, yes indeed my fathers details are exactly as you gave me and my grandfather Edwin was indeed a cripple. I am with Ancestry so will look there. Thank you all again, think I am going to just love this message tool. Best wishes. Valerie
