Soldier in 1866

My Great-Great Uncle on his wedding registration listed his prof as a soldier. Any ideas on how to confirm or trace this 'fact' ?.

His profession will be shown on the 1871 census and also on the birth certificates of any children. If you are lucky, the latter may also show the regiment.

Have you looked for him on the 1861 and 1871 census records to see what was indicated as his occupation at those times?

Thanks for the replies. Neither of them appear on the 1871, 1881 or 1881census.

You could search the British Army Service Records on FMP for him

Thanks to all. I found my g-g Uncle in genes-re Armed Forces. He signed up in 1857, as a Private , stationed in Bermuda,1861. He was discharged in 1878 as a Sgt. Major, Dorsetshire Reg. 39th & 54th Foot. :-)
