he joined up 19th may 1914 served in malta 5/9/14 to 5/1/15 then moved to france 6/1/15 to 15/10/15 he was discharged 19/8/16 due to being shot in the leg we have all his papers but do not know where in france he was shot how would we find out he died in 1981 he never spoke about the war to us.

His Army record shows that he was wounded on 18 or 19/06/1915 and was operated on in Rouen. It also show the place as La Barras? France.

hi thank s for your reply on the discharge form we have dated 19th august 1916 reason for discharge was given as being no longer physically fit for war service panel 392 xv1 we have a vimy ridge Canadian war memorial medal so did wonder if he was involved in that area of fighting so will do some more research

The Vimy Ridge battle involving the Canadians seems to have taken place in April 1917, so after Walter was injured and returned to England.

Do you just have his discharge cert or do you have his full Pension record? The words after the no longer physically fit are actually Para 392 xv1 KR - the KR stands for Kings Regulations and the numbers refer to the paragraph in those.

Do you know who the Canadian War Memorial medal refers to?

if the medal is not Walters then it may be William carter or my grand fathers having to do some digging as all 3 served in ww1 and the medal is not named to any one
