Not to worry - your Harold Foulkes' records are likely to be amongst the burnt 70%.

Also for those who served after WW1 and before WW2 even those records are not complete. I know I tried to find my grandfathers records, only to be told that they either did not have them or they may have been mis-filed!!!

What evidence do you have that Harold served in WW1

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 18 Feb 2014 21:18

Where have you looked for Harold's service record?

abt 70% of service records were distroyed in WW2 bombing so you may not find them,

What other details do you have for him?

Their are 2 possible records on Ancestry and i don't have subs but if you can give more details for him someone who does may have a look,

who was his parents?

Did he get married whilst serving, and who too, any children born whilst serving?

Soldiers who served after 1920 are not online, they are still held by the MOD,

You can apply for them, It costs £30 for his basic info and can take between 6 to 9 months to recieve them.

This link below has all the info you need in order to apply including the forms you will need to send off .
