How can I find out about my late father he was in Saltcoats in 1941-42. He was born in Pontypool, South Wales. He was awarded medals but my late mother wiped him from our lives. I know he was a Good Man my brother's late friend said so and I really would like to trace his records . I have no one else to ask.

Service records for that period are still held by the MOD in normal circumstances you can apply for his service record but as the Cammando's where "special forces" i'm not 100% sure what info is available or if you need to apply using the Royal Marines application?

try this link for info http://www.commandoveterans.org/

to apply for his service records see the link below where it gives you all the info you require including the forms needed to apply
