Just wondering if it might be best to delete this thread and repost on Find Living Relatives? The only military connection was that he served in the RAAF. Would we be right in thinking that you've found his grave in Holland?

From NLA Trove

Townsville Daily Bulletin, Wednesday 12 June 1946
ROLL OF HONOUR
HORWOOD.— Fondest memories of our dear son and brother, Flt./Sgt. John Harold Horwood, also the six members of his crew, who lost their lives in Holland, returning from operations on Dusseldorf, 12th June, 1943.
Resting where no shadows fall.
You gave for us— your life—your all.
(Inserted by Mr. and Mrs. J. Fury and Betty).
HORWOOD-In loving memory of our nephew, Q414352 Flt. Sgt. John Harold Horwood, who lost his life returning from air operations over Holland, 12th June 1943.
Safe in God's care. Ever in our thoughts. (Inserted by his aunt and uncle, T. and F. Gleeson).

So he had a sister named Betty.

EDIT: Betty was a FURY, so John's half-sister - there is a photo of her as a bride here: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article63361486
