I have come across the term "Home Embodied" to describe a relative's military service in WW1. He was 50 years of age at the time. Can anyone tell me what this means, please?

I believe 'embodied' meant enlisted/signed up for full time service.

Home embodied would presumably mean that he was not required to serve overseas.

With a bit of luck someone with more knowledge may be able to confirm or refute this.

That makes sense bearing in mind his age. He was 48 when he was enlisted, and 50 when he became "home embodied".
