Can someone please look up the service/ pension records for John Duncan b.c 1900 in Glasgow with father John,

Do you know which branch of the Forces he was in? There seems to be a lot of John Duncans around.

Sorry I have no idea, just that his father's name is John and he was born in Glasgow c1900, but thanks for looking.

Hello Jean, if John Duncan was born c1900 then he would only have been 14 at the outbreak of WW1 and obviously too young to have enlisted then. Of course, it depends how many years +/- 1900 he was born and also whether he served under age (as many did).

You say "Sorry I have no idea, just that his father's name is John and he was born in Glasgow c1900" - how have you connected to him, you must have his name in relation to someone else rather than just a random name?

If you have more information about him then let us know - did he marry (who/where/when)? Do you know when he died (where/when)?

All of this might help us pick the correct John Duncan and then be able to help you.

Another point is that around 70% of WW1 service records were destroyed during WW2. The pension records on Ancestry are based on service records and are therefore far from complete. The Western Front Association http://www.westernfrontassociation.com/ has many more pension cards.

John Duncan married Annie Moore in 1927 in Glasgow and died in 1955 in Camberwell, London.
His parents were John and Mary nee Low.
Address on his marriage cert was 15, Hampden Road, Glasgow.

If the age on death is accurate then I do think he would have been too young for WW1:

The enlistment age band for the regular army was 18 to 38 (had to be 19 to serve overseas).

Of course, we know that the rules were bent and breached. Do you know for definite that he did actually serve in WW1?
