Hi
I have been researching my wife's great grandfather John Percy Davis, who was born on 14 June 1884 in Aston Manor, Birmingham.
He is on the 1911 census John Percy Davis (b.1885 Birmingham) age 26, wife Lily 25, children Ernest Frederick 5, Florence 4, Fred 1 @ 220 Park Lane, Aston Manor, Birmingham.

In WW1 he was in the Gloucestershire Hussars and served at Gallipoli and France, and possibly Palestine.
There is a family story that he volunteered for either the Royal Irish Police Auxiliaries to fight the rebels in Ireland in the early 20's, or he may have been a ”Black and Tan”.
Does anyone know how we could find out if this is true from any records?

You might find some records of the "Black and Tans" at the National Archives.
