I am searhing for details of my mother who served in the Womens volentary services, I have a picture of her in uniform with a shoulder badge showing WDS

1939 register:

Nicholls Household (2 People) 32A Park Parade , Willesden M.B., Middlesex, England

Esther Nicholls (Forsythe) 27 Feb 1910 Female Forewoman Ice Cream Manf Widowed
Frederick Nicholls 03 Dec 1914 Male Packer Tinned Food Heavy Worker Single

Despite the transcription saying widowed, I think it is probably an M for married. The handwriting makes it difficult to distinguish between the Ms and Ws.
