Hi Can I thank all the people who had answered my request for help in finding a photo of my Grandfather Arthur Birkin.
It may seem trivial to some of our members but I have just been sent a photo by a contact that contains all my Fathers family taken in 1915 the year Arthur enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters Nott’s and Derby Regiment.
To explain my delight I never knew any of my grandparents they had all died before I was born the last being my Grandmother Kate Anna Titley (formerly Birkin, nee Broom) died in November of 1945 one month before my birth. It has long has been the source of great disappointment to me not knowing them.
I had previously put out an appeal on Genes Reunited to try to find a photograph of My Grandfather Arthur Birkin who was killed in 1916 whilst fighting in Belgium WW1. I wanted to at least know what he looked like I have visited the War Memorial at Menin Gate Epres Belgium several times and have been moved by the myriad of names and yes I had found my grandfather’s name there. So keep digging for those treasures however small and once again thanks to Genes Reunited and its members for the opportunity to glean the facts, snippets etc.
