When will GR stop posting information about this site on Facebook?

Information concerning problems about this site should be posted on here.

No everyone uses or wants to use Facebook

Not a happy bunny

Same here! as said above, not everyone uses facebook, so if you are goin to make changes, then anounce it HERE, not Facebook!

Flick

Flick Report 5 May 2011 13:07

I NEVER use Facebook.

As a paying member of GR, I expect to be shown the courtesy of being informed about the site ON the site.

Thanks for your suggestion Glitter Baby. Whenever there are any important updates we do add them to this message board as well as our Facebook page. However, we'll see if we can get the 'updated' icon to show when a new announcement has been added here.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 5 May 2011 13:27

Yes but the annoucement about the current problems on site was put on Facebook first and added to this site after the members mentoned on threads about it

Joy

Joy Report 5 May 2011 14:04

The announcement was posted here after I had requested it on facebook.

But don't totally discount Facebook all together. Let's live dangerously and make sure information is shared on both sites. :D

If GR are going to reply on this board to any complaints or suggestions, I would rather not use facebook to be honest leave it to the non paying and banned members

By all means post info on facebook, but put in on here FIRST, for those of us who PAY. That is what is known as common courtesy.

We should not have to learn about changes second-hand, from people who use facebook

I only joined facebook because there was problems on the site and it was the only way to get a speedy response.

I would prefer problems with this site discussed here and your facebook page to be just a marketing tool. Having said that I do enjoy some of the links to articles of interest posted by GR and other members

I was deadset against FB until those I am friendly with on this site joined and I realised I was 'missing out' on some things :-)

Since joining, however, I absolutely love it as it also keeps me in regular touch with some family members overseas as well as with those I have chosen to be my friends.

I use a pseudonym as I am not particularly interested in being contacted by old school friends and am selective as to the security measures as to who can and cannot view my ramblings :)

I also only post what I am willing to share with others...........private things remain private and do not go onto that site. If I have nothing to say, then I don't say it !

It's really a matter of commonsense to be honest.

Cynthia,

No-one is saying you shouldn't use Facebook. Everyone makes their own call on that one.
What is being said any information/announcements regarding this site, which we pay to use, should PRIMARILY be via this site. That is courtesy. If GR feel the need to make that info available later on Facebook, then fair enough, but it should be here first.

Island

Island Report 6 May 2011 10:48

You don't have to join Facebook to look at the GR pages.
Just put "Genesreunited Facebook" into a search engine the click on 'wall' on the left hand side to see what's being announced and discussed.

PeeEmm Report 6 May 2011 10:50

Facebook is my home page, so I look there first.

The fact that 'non members' are viewing facebook's Genes Reunited page should be seen by all as an opportunity to sell Genes Reunited to all, and to extend our courtesy to them.......

added: 10th May 13:10pm

Genes have made a great effort to improve things, and I believe negative comments on Facebook will gradually 'fade away' - let's get ride of the out of date view that non-paying members are second class - for that is what comes across when I read most of the above posts.

I do realise that Robert and agree completely. I was just airing my views about FB in view of the negative comments. :-)

I do agree; I think it is very wrong to post on facebook about maintenance - six hours ago - and yet not on genes reunited site.
