I believe it is number of members who have viewed. If you go in and out of a thread a few times the view count only increments the first time and stays the same after that.

Joy, when I said logical I meant that views should come first because a thread has to be viewed before a reply can be made. Having said that I must agree that most sites that have the views displayed givee the replies first.

I still prefer replies at the end where I can find them easily and in general am not bothered about views. What do views represent? Is it the number of posters who have looked at that thread or the number of times it has been looked at?

I agree with everything that TootyFruity has said. I was also disagreeing with the request, not the right of someone to make such a request. I think it's important for members who disagree with a request to let Genes know how they feel about it.

Meercat I was disagreeing with the suggestion not the right for every member to post a suggestion. In fact I would defend every members right to make a suggestion but also defend every members right to voice their opinion as to whether or not they agreed with the suggestion.

There was no disrespect intended to either Mildred (the original poster) or anyone else who voiced an opinion whether in favour or not. I was just voicing my opinion

If the number of views are listed then it shows that people have bothered to read the post.
If no-one replies, then presumably it is a difficult request, for whatever reason.

I have to agree with Joan. I see no reason why they list the number of views. Who cares how many people view a thread? I am interested, however, in how many replies there have been. Too many and I don't want to have to read through them all before trying to help.

Logical opinions vary from person to person / site to site, Ken :)

On all other sites that I visit, it is replies first; then views, one such example, a site visited by many as one can see:

It seems more logical to me to have views first and then replies. It is the replies that are more important when looking at a thread (do we really need views?). It is easier to focus on replies if they are at the end of the line.

Well i will leave it to the genes team to see if its low on their priorities.
if they answered the suggestions we would all know what they classed as low or high prioriteies instead of members suspecting.

Yes they do have the right, but you are more likely to get a hearing if the proposal is likely to bring real benefits to the membership as a whole.

I suspect this one would be pretty low on the list of priorities when it comes to allocating development budget.

Trivial or not I think every member as the right to post a suggestion.

What an absolutely trivial request! I read left to right, number of views then number of replies.

Must admit I don't often go onto other forums so I'm quite happy with the "replies" at the far right hand side of the screen - I'm used to them being there.

I'd be happier if the site was quicker. We have 50mb broadband and it still takes ages sometimes for the pages to change.

Its seems a rather trivial request compared to other problems being encountered on the site for example it running very slow

To be perfectly honest I think if views and replies were changed after all this time would cause confusion as we are all use to the way it is

"Can't get too worked up about it. Surely there are more important matters that need dealing with?"
- I would not wish you to get too worked up about it; I leave the matter in the capable hands of Phil / other site staff :-)

Can't get too worked up about it. Surely there are more important matters that need dealing with as a higher priority?

Yep there are all these views and only one reply..

Shall I just look at Joy and Mildred or say hello :-)

I also got :S (that's confused icon) when I first saw them.

Must remember never to type a colon followed by an S or otherwise the :S
sign will pop up and sometimes, only sometimes I am able to think straight and sometimes I even do lateral thinking.... that should fill up all the space they give for one line now. :D

Good idea.
Otherwise, for instance, looking at this specific thread, it looked as if there had been 35 replies and no views :-)

Please can you swap these around to replies, then views.

On all other sites its replies first :-)

Viewing views first tricks you into thinking the thread has more replies than it really is. :-)
