Just so you're aware we're still looking at this, here's an update.

Firstly (and this isn't really the login issue, but it might make you think it is related), many of you might have some links in your favourites or a link on your desktop to take you to a specific page. Over the course of the last year, GR has been migrating it's code to a new structure, and we've tried to put in place things like automatic redirects etc. where possible, but in some cases this isn't. It has therefore left some of these old links direct to "error/maintenance" pages. I would thoroughly recommend removing any old links and resetting them. If anyone needs specific instructions on this task, we can gather them and post them on a help page.

Secondly, and again this is just a helper - not a solution, we migrated our servers from London to Dundee a couple of weeks ago. This should not have impacted yourselves as it was an internal thing. FannyByGaslight's comments are interesting as our za site is still running from the old servers (although latest code is deployed to it as well as the new servers), but wondering if there is an issue with this that is effecting a small number.

We also deployed a new code base at the same time, that involved a change in the use of our cookies. If you haven't already cleared your cookies and are willing to do so, then I would suggest taking this action.
Again, if guidance is needed we can post a help page (or redirect you to one if it exists already).

Other things you may like to try are switching pop-up blockers on/off, switching on/off ad blockers, etc.

Let everyone know if you have any success. I will post further updates as we investigate things through the day.

Regards Phil

Hi Phil

Thanks for the update.

Don't think this is going to help much, but I don't visit this site through a bookmark or icon I type the address in everytime and still have the log in issue.

Fingers crossed though, yesterday and today I have logged on through za and have not had the same problems especially of having to log on again when changing boards,

Maybe your servers didn't want to go to Dundee and are missing their cosy London office :-D

Still only able to get on here through this..

www.genesreunited.co.za

It works fine and over the last few years does seem to have the least prob with Glitches...

I always use it when UK plays up...

MaryMc - I know you mention your in NZ, but are you using the .co.uk site or the .co.nz site?

Would be interested to know if those others that are suffering badly, still suffer if they use the .co.za site instead?

Again, our sincerest apologies and thank you for your patience. We are continuing to investigate this as a major priority.

Phil, I try various - za, uk etc; sometimes I have to sign in, sometimes I don't. As I posted before, I think, no other site requires me to sign in, and most to which I subscribe are free :)

What is going on??!!!

For two days now I have not had to log in.

How can I whinge and complain when the system is working properly.

There's a moment of anticipation when you click the icon, will it or won't it, will it or won't it, and then when it does...........

oh the disappointment!!!

Oh well, now I'll have to start looking at why I can type and the letters not appear on the screen. I know I'm quick, but faster than the computer can respond is stretching the imagination a little.

My first reaction is that the keyboard is on it's last buttons.

My second reaction is that my typing is skewiff.

My third reaction is that it is all GRs fault and they need to fix the problem!!!!

To everyone reading or who has contributed to this post. Firstly, I again have to apologise. We still have not identified the cause (or causes) of the problems indicated, but we are still investigating it. We're not just sticking our heads in the sand (maybe heads in hands though in despair!) and need to resolve this. I genuinely thank everyone for all the information you have supplied. I would be most interested to know if the following happen though?

Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the "login again" page when using the .co.za site?

On any version of the site, if you are faced with the login screen, what happens if you ignore it, and then click on the Genes logo to take you back to the home page. Does this refresh your member status in the top right above the menu?

Does anyone experience the login screen when trying to do something you would normally expect to be able to do when not even logged in, such as just browsing the boards or doing a search, or is it completely confied to actions such as posting board messages, or viewing image?

Thank you again for your patience and support. I will continue to kerep you posted.

"Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the "login again" page when using the .co.za site?" - yes, just now, though not yesterday.

"On any version of the site, if you are faced with the login screen, what happens if you ignore it, and then click on the Genes logo to take you back to the home page. Does this refresh your member status in the top right above the menu?" - I shall try that next time instead of signing in.

"Does anyone experience the login screen when trying to do something you would normally expect to be able to do when not even logged in, such as just browsing the boards or doing a search, or is it completely confied to actions such as posting board messages, or viewing image?" - not logging in so far, but the error message.

Well I have just not been able to access the site on any portal for the past hour. Good news is I have got most of the housework finished.

However, I have just entered on .co.uk and didn't need to log in.

I will keep you posted if it logs me out whilst navigating the site

I fail to see why "things" needed to be shifted to Dundee in the first place , causing general havoc ?

If it aint broke why fix it.?

Hi Phil

Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the "login again" page when using the .co.za site?

.............. not tried .co.za yet. Still sticking with .co.uk

On any version of the site, if you are faced with the login screen, what happens if you ignore it, and then click on the Genes logo to take you back to the home page. Does this refresh your member status in the top right above the menu?

.................. Have not tried this. In fact, never thought of trying this!

........ I have GR in my Favourites, set to open on Community Board screen. If I then have to log in, I am taken back to Home page, and have to navigate back to Community Board

Does anyone experience the login screen when trying to do something you would normally expect to be able to do when not even logged in, such as just browsing the boards or doing a search, or is it completely confied to actions such as posting board messages, or viewing image?

............. not experienced having to log in at any time other than when first opening GR. Everything has been fine for me within the site. I do get the Error message when in the site.

In fact, I have been taken by surprise several times ............... I've used my Favourites to open GR on Community Boards screen, clicked on My Threads or on a Board, clicked on a thread, scrolled through and read posts ......... and it is only when I try to write a message that I realise that I am not signed in. In those cases, I log in, and am immediately taken back to Home Page, and have to navigate several screens to where I had been

Have to say that I did NOT have to log in this morning, everything was "as normal", but like AuntyS, I had that "moment of anticipation when you click the icon, will it or won't it, will it or won't it," :-D

Edit Hmmm interesting submit button very slow.....

OK. I have had a problem with my virus scanner program. It is not activating and the support centre is not being supportive.
However during the possible solutions I had to clear my internet cache which means.....

I had to log on to get back into GR.

Before doing that I tried some of Phil's "tests".

Before I logged in I clicked on Community. I was able to access anything on the Community board but I could not post a message or access "my threads". Search trees required a log in.
