Had to sign in, using http://www.genesreunited.co.za/.

Have attempted to change my email address several times, but site is refusing to save it; sent email yesterday about this to [email protected] with request read receipt, acknowledgement of which was received from [email protected].
Tried again to change my email address today and was signed out during the process.

Sorry

We are performing some essential maintenance on Genes Reunited, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Genes Reunited Team

What!!, at 7.20am Sunday morning UK, I don't believe it...

For goodness sake Genes get in some Outside Technical help, close the bloomin' site for a day if you have to, (announce it first, on all Boards!) and get this fixed, and stop introducing new things until you've done so, at the moment it's nothing more than a joke!.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear! (however old fashioned that sounds)

You told us at WDYTYA Olympia that new changes were afoot, well if this is them, not impressed, all we want is a proper running genealogical website, what we pay for.

So hoping for not another week of this...One only has so much tolerance and patience level, and I'm afraid mine has reached the "blowing stack" stage.

Chris :)

Just found out a sure fire way of having to log into the site.

Don't try this at home, unless you're like me, daft!!

Overload the power board. Let me see six plug holes and six plugs all in and switched on.

Zzzzzzapppp!!! Instant off. And log in required to each site which was open at time of stupidity.

Oh I do find glorious ways to entertain myself on a freezing cold winter's afternoon!!!

an extension of memebrship because of problems with the site would not be setting a new trend for GR

I joined in April 2004, but my membership now runs from June to June ...................... it was extended by 2 months several years ago because there I had been having major problems with the site.

I have just had to log in, pressed community and GR Logo still had to log in. I am using za portal

To be perfectly honest this is just the least of the problems being experienced by members and it is now getting very annoying with the catalogue of what is not working.

You are a subscription site and we pay good money to use it. You are supposed to provide us with a workable site that does not give error messages when navigating around it.

To say customer service is lacking is an understatement. Every subscribed member should have received an email about the problems being experienced and an apology for the delay. This is not Phil Moir's job and yet he has walked an extra mile for members, especially when sorting out Derek's thread as well as others. This should be down to the customer service team. They should be supporting him whilst he gets on and does his job.

If this continues then I will expect either a refund of the time I have been unable to use the site or an extension on my membership.

Please get it sorted ASAP

Today:

"Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the "login again" page when using the .co.za site?" - yes.

On any version of the site, if you are faced with the login screen, what happens if you ignore it, and then click on the Genes logo to take you back to the home page. Does this refresh your member status in the top right above the menu?" - no.

Listen, guys.

The problems are constant, randomly changing and neverending.

One portal works, another doesn't, then it's the other way around ...
One board can be accessed, another can't, then none can ...

I'm seeing no point in continuing to ramble on about the many wondrous variations of these problems. Is anybody else?

They know about the problems. They told me so in their email.

They are refusing to communicate with their paying customers in any reasonable way -- not by putting us all to work to see whether this works or that works, not by thanking us for our patience if we manage to get an email through to them, but by giving notice on the website to customers trying to use it, that there are problems, and offering advice for dealing with them if that is possible until they are fixed, and giving a reasonable estimate of when the fix will happen.

The site is broken, it is supposedly undergoing maintenance to try to fix it (oh look! it's Friday night!), and there are no notices on the site, no responses to the constant stream of threads about problems, a big fat zero nothing from this company about the fact that its paying customers are not getting the service they are paying for.

EMAIL THEM. Email them repeatedly. Demand that the management MANAGE the &%$# website. And demand an extension of your subscription as compensation for the denial of the service you have paid for.

That's what I'm doing. And it's what I've suggested in my
WILL YOU INFORM YOUR CUSTOMERS PLEASE???
post on this board ...

OK. I have had a problem with my virus scanner program. It is not activating and the support centre is not being supportive.
However during the possible solutions I had to clear my internet cache which means.....

I had to log on to get back into GR.

Before doing that I tried some of Phil's "tests".

Before I logged in I clicked on Community. I was able to access anything on the Community board but I could not post a message or access "my threads". Search trees required a log in.

Started computer, checked gmail, checked A, clicked on GR icon, straight into home page no problems at all. Very early morning in Oz using .com.au version.

Edit Hmmm interesting submit button very slow.....

Hi Phil

Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the "login again" page when using the .co.za site?

.............. not tried .co.za yet. Still sticking with .co.uk

On any version of the site, if you are faced with the login screen, what happens if you ignore it, and then click on the Genes logo to take you back to the home page. Does this refresh your member status in the top right above the menu?

.................. Have not tried this. In fact, never thought of trying this!

........ I have GR in my Favourites, set to open on Community Board screen. If I then have to log in, I am taken back to Home page, and have to navigate back to Community Board

Does anyone experience the login screen when trying to do something you would normally expect to be able to do when not even logged in, such as just browsing the boards or doing a search, or is it completely confied to actions such as posting board messages, or viewing image?

............. not experienced having to log in at any time other than when first opening GR. Everything has been fine for me within the site. I do get the Error message when in the site.

In fact, I have been taken by surprise several times ............... I've used my Favourites to open GR on Community Boards screen, clicked on My Threads or on a Board, clicked on a thread, scrolled through and read posts ......... and it is only when I try to write a message that I realise that I am not signed in. In those cases, I log in, and am immediately taken back to Home Page, and have to navigate several screens to where I had been

Have to say that I did NOT have to log in this morning, everything was "as normal", but like AuntyS, I had that "moment of anticipation when you click the icon, will it or won't it, will it or won't it," :-D

Well I have just not been able to access the site on any portal for the past hour. Good news is I have got most of the housework finished.

However, I have just entered on .co.uk and didn't need to log in.

I will keep you posted if it logs me out whilst navigating the site

"Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the "login again" page when using the .co.za site?" - yes, just now, though not yesterday.

"On any version of the site, if you are faced with the login screen, what happens if you ignore it, and then click on the Genes logo to take you back to the home page. Does this refresh your member status in the top right above the menu?" - I shall try that next time instead of signing in.

"Does anyone experience the login screen when trying to do something you would normally expect to be able to do when not even logged in, such as just browsing the boards or doing a search, or is it completely confied to actions such as posting board messages, or viewing image?" - not logging in so far, but the error message.

To everyone reading or who has contributed to this post. Firstly, I again have to apologise. We still have not identified the cause (or causes) of the problems indicated, but we are still investigating it. We're not just sticking our heads in the sand (maybe heads in hands though in despair!) and need to resolve this. I genuinely thank everyone for all the information you have supplied. I would be most interested to know if the following happen though?

What is going on??!!!

For two days now I have not had to log in.

How can I whinge and complain when the system is working properly.

There's a moment of anticipation when you click the icon, will it or won't it, will it or won't it, and then when it does...........

oh the disappointment!!!

Oh well, now I'll have to start looking at why I can type and the letters not appear on the screen. I know I'm quick, but faster than the computer can respond is stretching the imagination a little.

My first reaction is that the keyboard is on it's last buttons.

My second reaction is that my typing is skewiff.

My third reaction is that it is all GRs fault and they need to fix the problem!!!!
