Today, I have looked at this site briefly. I did not have to sign in today, but I was directed, without wishing to :-S, from one board to another.

We are paying to use this site - there should not be so many problems / glitches in it.

I use many free sites in which I do not encounter such issues.

The only way was through a Google search. Please would you sort this before Saturday evening as the thought of being driven to watch UK TV really is too much :-) :-) :-) :- :-)

ps Would have used Emticons but they are not working either-are we having a refund of subscriptions to recompense us for the lack of availability?
Edit:
OOOOOOH Emoticons tell fairy stories and have 80% capability.

The fact that everybody seems to be having the same problem right now

- can access Genealogy Chat, Suggestions, Living Relatives
- can't access General Chat, Find Ancestors
- can't access My Threads, can access My Watch Threads

?

seems to indicate that there actually is maintenance being done.

Oh for an Announcements board, where the corporation could tell its customers what is happening ...

... Oh wait ...

I came on the computer very early this morning, Canadian time, to sort out my subscription problem. It was about 2:30 pm UK time

Had to log in, but everything else worked

After 10 minutes (and 3 posts) I got the down-for-essential-maintenance notice

Not had that before!

Could not go onto any boards, open my Messages, etc etc

went away, had breakfast etc etc, and returned about 3 hours later

same thing

so I closed the site down, and re-entered. Had to log in BUT the down-for-essential-maintenance notice had gone, and I could access everywhere

Using Windows, IE6, and .co.uk

but it was also down with Mozilla Firefox

Well, now it *is* happening to me.

It's the down-for-essential-maintenance message, though.

I haven't tried everything, but I cannot get "my threads" or General Chat, and I can get Genealogy Chat and this board.

And yes. We have had way too much of enough of being told to email the company and enter into some pointless discussion of what browser we use.

Maybe this is intended to help the company recreate the problem we're having, I don't know. But it isn't working. We have been doing this part of the staff's job for months.

If the staff want to know what happens when you use Firefox or IE6 or whatever, let them go find a computer with those things installed and try it out.

I don't *want* to change my browser.

I have the latest Firefox with exactly the bells and whistles I want. I can't stand IE, Chrome and Safari and I will not use them, period.

I don't *want* to use .za or .com.au or .nz.

I do use one of them for staying logged in under a free account I have for a spare tree, to check for messages occasionally and such.

And if I used those portals for everyday, I would have to go futzing around with adblock and noscript all over again to get things the way I want them.

So no.

Not changing browser, not changing portal.

I want to be able to use the .co.uk portal and get all the services that are supposed to be available to paying users.

I'm sick of seeing thread after thread after thread all over the various discussion boards carrying on about this (not that there's much else going on these days in terms of actual family history, the Living Relatives board having killed that off nicely).

The staff aren't reading those threads (as I suggested on this board they start doing) or communicating with users.

I've been pleased with the recent responses to *substantive* problems and suggestions about the boards (e.g. proper instructions to users).

The response to these technical problems, not pleased at all.

If the thing can't be fixed, give up and get a new one. That's what the rest of us do when our car or our stove or our coffeemaker or our computer doesn't work.

Just signed in through co. za and can view all boards.... at the moment !

But we shouldn't really have to search for a way in...or a way to be able to view all boards or sections of the site.

I am stuck here now with this message

Sorry

We are performing some essential maintenance on Genes Reunited, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Is it just me?

Edit - just logged out and signed in with .co.za see if it works

Sorry Phil... but you are aware that there is a problem viewing certain boards. I contacted you direct 2 days ago and had a reply.

I have since contacted the site again and was advised to change browser.
How come it all works fine sometimes, then later in the day many boards are not available.?

It is too much of a coincidence that ALL of us have browser problems, ....but only on this site.

Please could the technicians look into fixing the problems as soon as possible, because it really is getting to be a real nuisance now.

Wisechild I have stopped using .co.uk and come online through co.za and have found the problems are not so great. Occasionally not able to access a board due to maintenance, but I just assumed that a board had been taken off line so that the GR team could look for errors. If this is the case a banner at the top of the site would be good advising members which board will be offline

Hi Phil. Thanks for answering.
Jax is right, there are lots of threads about this & several people have contacted the Help line.
I use Mozilla Firefox & access through Genesreunited.co.uk. & Windows on a laptop.

I think you will find Phil that there plenty of people having these problems.

I myself have had times when I can only access certain boards, last night in the early hours I could not use find ancestors because of maintenance but it had been fine for the 12 hours previous to this

Hi wisechild, Sorry to hear you are having problems, and sorry if this seems like a fob off, it's not intended. Have you contacted support with regard to this problem. I am certainly not aware that access to specific boards is not possible. If you email through the Contact us page, additional details are gathered that makes their job in analysing the problem much easier. A few quick questions from me, which url are you using (is it the www.genesreunited.co.uk or another), what platform are you using (Windows, Mac or tablet/phone) and what browser? If you can list this both on this thread and to the support team it would greatly help.
Thanks Phil

Please GR can you give me some idea how much longer the essential maintenance will take?
Since Monday, can´t access genealogy chat board, nor can I log out.
I know that some people never log out, but I always do when I can & it would be nice to have the option.
