G/R Navigation Muddles

G/R really should sort out the navigation on their site. I've been trying to tie together viewing trees with messages, tree permissions, relationship screens, and so on, and nothing seems to link together. I give up.

I asked a number of people for access to their trees, most of them kindly gave permission immediately and I received G/R eMails to notify me. What I want to do at this point is to click on a link, be taken to a screen with a simply routine that allows me to say thanks and give them access to my tree. That's an obvious user requirement and it can't be abnormal.

But I couldn't link things together. I couldn't tell which person I was dealing with. Sometimes people are user names, sometimes tree names, the screens are small extracts of complete data. It's a complete muddle.

hi john, do u mean links are there and throw error or send you to a different page. or do you mean new links need to be created? as the site evolves old pages get replaced and urls change. Emma, one of the Gr developers applied a lot of automatic redirects yesterday to fix these old links, normally in emails or browser favourites etc., and i'm keen to know if you mean that some of these are not working as expected. thanks phil

Yesterday I read a thread showing the poster by her first name.
I sent a message which showed a first name and a surname.
She appears in my contacts with a different surname.
Surely the surname should be the same.
Somehow you are using maiden names as well as married names.

Hello John,

Forgive me if you already know this but, have you clicked on your My Contact list? This links you with those with whom you have contact and whether you can view their tree or not. You can also contact them directly from there.

You will also find that many members do not use their real names as a security measure.

Welcome to the boards by the way :-D
