Good to see that board is fixed . Now in order to stop us all repeating ourselves, a simple

Before You Post message needs to be in place.

First put the names into search trees,
Check out 192'com Electoral Rolls .Facebook. friends R etc ,

This will save us all repeatedly telling people where to look and how to help themselves

ah Lindsey, sorry, I didn't know there was already a post about this

by adding to it I will bump it up !

I will copy the post from the thread I started today and then just delete that one :-)

so many people post there thinking their relatives ( like the descendants of their grandfather's brothers and sisters in a post I just saw ) may see their request ( and don't even name the people whose descendants they are looking for )

there is nothing in the instructions about using 'search trees'

most posters on that board are new users

most of the replies from 'helpers' ask have you searched trees ? and it is clear that in most cases the new users have not done that

could/should there not be a mention in the instructions for the board to be sure to search family trees for the person you are looking for or for other people with the same ancestors, and an explanation about contacting other members ?

that is after all what this site was first created for, so people could use the family trees added here to find people with their 'genes' :-)

and it seems like the living relatives board is being used instead of that rather than alongside it

thank you

I believe that the passing of information about living relations by us is open to abuse.

I think we should only point people in the general direction and respect the rights of those , who for their own reasons, do not wish to be found.
We have a duty to be responsible.
