Can GR please explain why they bother to have T & C when they do not keep to them.

I reported a thread after midnight because it contained the posters email addy. Watched the thread for over 30 minutes, before reporting it, and was aware the poster was on site after the thread was posted.

Literally just had a response from GR saying it can stay on the boards. So checked back to the thread and the information has been reinstated and including the email addy. GR you could have removed the email addy and just put the other details back on the thread.

How can you enforce the T&C on members if you do not keep to them

So my suggestion is that the team read them and where necessary remove some information before putting the details back :-S

I know exactly what you mean.

I reported my first thread the other day because it was a duplicate. Received an email this morning saying it can stay. So there it is back on the boards.

Why do we bother?

I seldom report threads but will do so when information such as email or phone numbers are given.

Wonder what would happen if that poster received rude or abusive emails after posting their email addy.

I think we have to be a bit careful here and let GR judge what should or should not be removed from postings. Personally, I will only report something if distasteful, offensive or a personal slur on another member, otherwise I see it as none of my business. A gentle hint on the thread pointing the errant member in the correct direction may be all that is needed.

As far as compliance with the T's and C's goes - how many can put their hand on heart and say they have never broken this one?

"In particular, you agree not to use the Genes Reunited Service to provide links to third party websites. "

I did ask on the thread that the email addy be removed then went back and edited to include the bit from the T & C.

Yes GR have the final say on what is on a thread but they have gone against their own T & C.

This site is becoming a joke and I am not laughing

Oh well the thread has been deleted sometime in the last two hours

No idea if the poster deleted or GR did

I am inclined to agree with IGP on this one.

If someone chooses to put their email address in their post then yes, they are infringing current GR terms and conditions but of what concern is that to other members. The inclusion of the email address itself is unlikely to cause any harm to any other member so why get involved. Surely it is up to GR themselves, not its members, to take appropriate action since it is their rule that has been broken.

I will not be concerned about anything in future on this site

Let people do what they like

Break all the T & C if they want.

I frankly am past caring what members do

I just think one does mention it or report it, not because of any obsession with T & Cs or being 'picky' ...but because it is what one DOES instinctively...ie try to help and 'protect' people...like putting a hand out to stop someone crossing the road in front of a bus...or pointing out to the bus driver that he is abut to mow someone down!

If somebody saw me posting my email addy without having thought about any consequences I would be grateful they bothered to 'protect' me , even if it meant that my post was removed!

I'm with GB on this...and it's one of the many reasons I'm not renewing next week.

Why not?

if one has more nous than the 'appointed' judge, jury, and excutioner ;-) since it is not a democracy we can't vote them out if we think they are not competent...though we can of course vote with our feet, as so many have already done !

Why am I one of them ?

Please explain ?

Hi GB

I saw the post last night and you did ask in a very polite manner if the poster would remove his e-mail address---to which I totaly agree.

Does the comment IGP has made mean he will have to report his own posting ?

After all in the 1st post IGP made in your thread he has included the words

"Personally, I will only report something if distasteful, offensive>>> or a personal slur on another member, <<<<< otherwise I see it as none of my business"

IMO an apology is needed from IGP to GB---there was no need at all to add the words

---You are one of them.....!

He should have left it with his first posting of----

The answer to this one is maybe none of us--including IGP

Before I get the blame I did not report a posting on this thread. But I wish I had done.

Certainly wish I had kept a copy but not in the habit of doing that.

It is naive to include one's email address in a public site. Any caring person, such as TurkishDelight, would ask for it to be removed.

For staff to reinstate a person's email address is :-0

Gai

Gai Report 21 Aug 2011 09:56

RR,

I think it would be a shame if you didn't renew as you are very helpful to members on the boards.

I hope you reconsider and decide to renew.

Joy, I have to agree with you about an email address on a public site and nowadays it just isn't safe to do so.

I agree Joy.

GB I didn't report the post either (I never have done, not that I haven't felt like doing sometimes ) but it shows that someone else found it "offensive" too.

What post was reported and what did it say? Was it offensive or has the serial reported reappeared.

Thankyou Gai, I have enjoyed helping people where and when I could, as a return for the help I was given when I started out :-D

Barbara,

Thank you for your comments. Now I am wondering who did report the comments.

Joy,

Thank you calling me caring as not usually thought of like that :-)

Gai,

Got to agree with you as it would be a shame not to have Rambling Rose on the site.

Oh well

Not only was a reply to this thread marked for request review but that has now disappeared.

Obviously the poster thinks their comments were acceptable as no explanation or apology offered.
