sorry if this is repeating a previous post, i did look at a couple of pages for it and didn't see anything similar:

if anyone uses facebook, myspace, bebo, etc you can do name searches just on surnames and then use filters to narrow down to a specific area. i have found several living relatives doing this and all it takes is a few c+p'd messages.

it can also be a great way to get info on branches you knew little about.
