Balderdash.

Slow slow slow tonight :-(

Why cant GR make changes over night when most users are in their beds

Ancestry seem to manage their site well enough. It does go off line now and again but they let you know and they arent off line for long

Jaqueline,

When I worked in systems support before retiring, by far the biggest single cause for certain users suddenly finding difficulty with websites they used every day was because their browser cache hadn't been cleared recently.

It isn't balderdash at all - clear it down every few days or so and you will do yourself a favour.

Jacqueline Report 26 Nov 2011 14:25

I'm not stupid, I regularly clear all my history etc etc

I have cleared my cache and had someone from BT look into it. There is nothing wrong my end. The community messages are fine, it's just the new messages page that is the problem.

I had this before and it was a fault from genes end. I am not a complainer normally, it is just very annoying that it only happens with the constant changes

I prefer to use IE6 for GR (even though I know it is outdated), but I now have to use Mozilla Firefox to send messages through the new Message Centre

Messages do go through .......

.......... but every other time, it will take 2 or 3 tries to access GR (including getting either the OOPS message or the ERROR message). I have NEVER had that when using IE6

.......... and it has just taken me more than 6 tries to open one of the messages in my Inbox ................ I finally had to leave the Message Centre, go back to Home page, and then re-enter Message Centre before that message would open.

dismal!

Almost grinding to a halt tonight

Will this site ever get back to anything like normal.

Also not stupid
GR usually blame problems with the site on temporary internet files and cookies etc. Mine were all done again just a couple of days ago so should not be a problem.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 29 Nov 2011 00:23

GB

I clear my temporary internet files regularly ....... and it makes no difference as to whether they have just been cleared or were cleared 2 days ago

the speed of GR doesn't change from slow slow slow.

It also makes little difference as to whether I am accessing it from the outdated IE6 or the up-to-date Firefox.

it really is way beyond a joke now ............. GR is lucky to have such dedicated members willing to stick it out.

I do know that many members have given up in disgust., and many more are stumbling along thinking THEY are the only ones having problems.

Just to clear up any misconception - clearing temp files won't speed things up....!

However, when a webpage unexpectedly fails to load properly and appears to have all sorts of bits missing, where it was previously ok. then clearing your cache may well solve it.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 29 Nov 2011 12:58

Bits missing !

Well last week I had another problem with the adverts on this site.

White box instead of a running advert and where there should have been threads was just a white box. Waited and waited and this only cleared itself by hitting the refresh button.

Strange that all my problems are only on this site. Ancestry, FMP, FreeBMD, Scotlandspeople, IGI, IOWFHS etc etc etc are all working fine. So I think it narrows the culprit down to just this site.

By the way have used computers since 1971 - might not know how they work - but do know when there is a problem on one site.

Today is running very slow and taking for ages for the pages to load.
