I am steaming through my ears!!!!!!!!!!!

I hve been trying for over an hour to access GR. No joy. I decookied, defragged, rebooted...... still no joy. Tried other sites I use regularly - in immediately.

Sent a message to GR using an email I received a couple of days ago (the usual response, blah blah, delete cookies, blah blah, what server are you using blah blah, it's your fault, blah blah).

What have I done wrong this time?

About to give up........ Googled....... got in via GR uk. I don't live in UK. I have no idea why, but the UK site does not work for me, if I add names to my tree they disappear. I told the GR experts this, they can't explain why.

So I can't add the ten or so new names to my tree. I'll go do a crossword. I would weed the garden, but it's raining........ anything has to be more fun than getting frustrated with this site.

I've been a member for 7 or 8 years. How long has GR been going? Long enough to sort out some basic bugs? I wonder if they decookie, defrag, reboot..... blah blah blah...........

I rarely sign out, but I usually have to sign in! No-one can explain this.

And...... I enter email address & password....... wait for a while... then it all goes blank....... I enter email address & password....... same thing..... usually at least three times....... then I get Error Message................. try clicking on GR Logo..... sometimes that works, mostly not........ enter email address & password... etc etc etc etc

I never log out of any of my sites.

GR is the only site that regularly manages to log me out during times when the computer is turned off :-S :-S


This is now 3 times in succession over a period of 24 hours that I have had to sign in ......... so the problem seems to be getting worse for me.

Catherine I have had exactly the same problems as you with logging in and going blank, this morning it was five or six times. This evening I didn't have to log in but I still couldn't get in for error messages. No point contacting them they will just tell me to chnge my browser (to one that somebody else who has the same problems uses.)

I have a friend staying with me, showed her the GR site and she added a small tree. It won't get much bigger as she has no idea of her great-grandparents names, and she believes her surname is a shortened form of what her father was born with.

Anyway, she had some problems using the site (surprise surprise!) and contacted GR. Here are a couple of their suggestions:

Her first query was how to get out of the "add details" page of the new tree, she saved the information, clicked on the arrow, but the page froze.

Response:
Your tree opens in a new page, when you want to go back to the homepage, this is on a different page to your tree, please check your open pages and you will see the Genes Reunited homepage

She emailed again, said she didn't want to go to the Home page, and repeated what she said in the first message, that the details page got stuck.

Response:
Once you've edited details on your tree and saved the changes, you just need to click on the little < icon on the left hand side of the details page. This will then close, and you'll be able to view your tree again.

Again she emailed.......... repeated the info in the other emails

With regards to the details page getting stuck, do you have the Google toolbar on Internet Explorer by any chance? If so, this could be what's causing the problem.

I would suggest that you try the local libraries computer as they may different systems and work better.
(this was in response to her telling them she didn't have a computer, and would probably use one in her local library.

Also, she asked about prices, which were given to her..... in British Pounds. That's really useful for someone who lives in Australia.

Do the GR people actually READ our messages?

All the messages from GR were copied & pasted, I did not type them.

BTW - I didn't sign out earlier....... but had to sign in again, it only took 5 tries this time. Improvement.

It would be worth addressing an email to Estelle, support@genesreunitied.co.uk ................... copy what you have just posted above, and tell her how useless this information was, especially for a potential new member.

grrrrrrrr! This time I tried to sign in 6 times (I hadn't signed out), 6th time got Error message, clicked on the GR logo, nothing, clicked logo, nothing, clicked logo, finally got in.

Sylvia - I copied & pasted my last message, sent it to Estelle.

My friend is laughing, she said the "Help" is the most UNhelpful she has ever come across.

Thought about looking for lang deid yins this afternoon..... not now, I'm not in the mood! It's raining so we can't go to the beach, or play golf...... think we'll head to the video store........ comedy section..... I need a good laugh.

I still haven't added the 10 new names to my tree.

I won't use the new tree until it's been fumigated.

Clicked on Use Old Tree....... guess what I got? No prizes for guessing........

I'm back - typed genesreunited etc into the http box..... and got straight in. No sign in, no Error message........... I am amazed.

I've done nothing to my computer..... same stuff....... what's happening?

Response received to above message emailed to GR, Attention Estelle

I'm sorry but Estelle isn't working today so i hope you don't mind if I answer your query.I'm sorry we didn't answer your friend Ann's query. I can see we tried to help her but obviously misunderstood her problems. I can also see we did send her an email explaining the prices in Australian dollars. From looking at Ann's system details it looks like she was using Mozilla firefox 4 which is old version of firefox. I'd suggest she upgrades to the latest version of firefox which has been tested on the site. We do know there are some bugs with the new tree and our developers are working hard to fix these.

I've already replied, let them know (repeating!) that it's MY computer, and requested that my previous email be brought to Estelle's attention.

Still no suggestion as to how to get out of the frozen details page, which was Ann's initial query.

I was on this site earlier (one of the rare times I got straight in), added a couple of names to my tree. I did NOT sign out. I am the only person in the house today, nobody else has touched my computer.

I started trying to access GR 24 minutes ago.

Had to sign in............ wait................. spaces went blank......
this happened EIGHT TIimes.

Did I get in? No! I got the dreaded Error message, which claims - click on GR logo you will return ( ? ) to home page. What do they mean "return"? - that's where I wanted to go!

Clicked on GR logo.........and got............ a different sign in page.

Sign in again............. Error message. Got sign in page twice and THREE error messages before I finally got here.

Getting really fed up with this.

Hours later...........

Tried SEVEN times to sign in, kept getting blank spaces (and I didn't sign out of the previous session).

Typed www.genesreunited.com.au........... and I am now in
www.genesreunited.co.uk....... how did that happen?

I won't go to my tree (not even sure if I can get to it, couldn't get there earlier)....... if I use the uk tree it doesn't work. If I add a name, that person disappears. I don't know why......... and GR have no explanation.

I am REALLY fed up. :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-|

This site used to be brilliant.

I'd help many new researchers out there, but now hardly get any questions as people just cannot get into the message centre on this blooming website.

It is soooo frustrating. Why couldn't they have left things alone GRRRR!!!!!
