well, I did apparently have a post removed, on the 28th, I think .......................

but I only know because the guy who did it then sent me a pm!

He reported the post under "Other", apparently because I had disagreed with him :-0

He sent me a copy of the email back from GR ......... who have apparently removed the post.

I haven't the foggiest idea which post, or why

BUT

I was very disturbed to see that they had given him my surname ............ that has NEVER been available on this site!

so a blister of an email to GR wanting to know why they've violated my privacy.

No Ken, but then the coward who chose to report it didn't have the civility to contact me either. Never mind, life goes on. :-)

Kense

Kense Report 29 Feb 2012 10:28

Have they told you why they removed it?

Island

Island Report 29 Feb 2012 09:58

Oh how funny! GR saw fit to remove a post that was in support of them LOL

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Feb 2012 20:49

ancestry and familysearch, as well as a couple of the free sites, post messages that appear when you try to use the site(s) when down

....... it comes up immediately you try to enter, saying the site is down, and apologizing.

Surely it would be possible for GR to do something like that?

GlitterBaby Report 28 Feb 2012 18:13

But the point is that GR could have posted an apology on this site to let members know that there had been a problem earlier.

Why can they not see how simple it would have been to have done that ?

Not all GR members use FB !!!!!!!

Goodness somebody is finger happy today (and yesterday). Have they nothing better to do? I can't believe somebody took exception to that Island, you were only giving your personal point of view. Are we not allowed to do that any more, or is somebody working through the regular posters. Do you think they mark notches on the side of their pc?

Julia Report 28 Feb 2012 15:12

GlitterBaby
Although I am not on Facebook, so could not access the message from GR, there would have been no point in putting it on GR, because we could not get into GR., so could not have read it if they had.

So why RR it? :-S

Come out whoever you are and explain yourself.
There was nothing wrong with my post.

I was pointing out that as there were problems with GR at the time they posted an anouncement to that effect on FB to at least let members know that login failure was down to the site. I thought it was pretty considerate of them.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 28 Feb 2012 13:22

Did not read the post but why was it RR

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 28 Feb 2012 12:42

Okay so why have the GR Team again posted info on FB this morning that should have been posted on this site.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Jan 2012 20:20

Agree, GB

However, one does have to admit that it is a great advance from 2 or 3 years ago, when the "helpers" were rarely acknowledged.

Why oh why are you still posting comments on Facebook about this site?

Shows how much you appreciate the members who help on the boards when you can not be bothered to post on this site :-P

Praise for the members should be shown on this site as well

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Jan 2012 23:43

Thank you, Phil

Good to hear from you again.

How about the system used by ancestry, and several other sites that I use.

They simply put up a banner that runs across the top of the screen, and it shows, no matter which board or thread you are in ...................... it just says the site will be down from xxxx am/pm on such-and-such date, with apologies.

Then, when the site is down ..........an attempt to enter the site brings up a screen that says the site is down for maintenance (or upgrading), with apologies for the disruption.

That allows people to plan their time, without being completely disrupted in the middle of doing something.

Thank you Phil

BUT still does not answer why the team are posting on Facebook first and sometimes not at all on this site

Re Announcements. It's hard to know how many places we should flag up announcements. The Activity Alert on the home page (now reimplemented without the performance impact of before) will show ALL stickied posts from the Announcements board. This is a start I think. But it is possibly to reuse this functionality elsewhere on the site. Maybe on the Boards Summary page also? We're going to try smaller steps and take greater notice of your feedback.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Jan 2012 19:28

What was needed was notification on EVERY Board ..................... los of people don't look at Announcements because they use Favourites or Bookmarks to go directly to their threads, then move around from there.

Businesses should know that their Support desk is extremely important in keeping customers, members or clients happy.

GR's fails abysmally in that department

One minor example from this morning .......... I've read reports on FB that people were in the middle of working on their tree when the site went black ........................

............ why could GR not have copied Ancestry?

When they are going to shut down the site, they post a banner that runs across the top of the screen saying that the site will be shut down on such-and-such a date and time about 24 hours before it happens.

Simple!

Kense Report 19 Jan 2012 11:42

There is a new indication if you go via Community but what is needed is some flag against Announcements on the Board Summary.

From facebook an hour ago:

Hi everyone,

Just so that you are aware, we will be releasing some new code to the site this morning that we hope will improve site performance. We will also be releasing a new version of the family tree. You may experience some minor disruptions to the site whilst we implement these changes. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks

The Genes Team

Very disappointing that genes support staff are communicating elsewhere but not in their own site, very disheartening. :-( :-|

My apologies to them on this occasion. It is in announcements but nothing had shown up as new.

So still posting information on FB which should be posted on this site
